New for 2014 is the Geometric Shapes Building Set from Learning Resources. This building set is for children ages 5 and up or in grades K and up. All of the building pieces come nicely packaged in a reusable plastic tub for storage.

We got this set for our 5 year old grand daughter Gia who loves to sit down and build things. She has various types of building sets but what interested us with this one is that it is really different than others she already owns. Plus, it comes with 170 pieces which gives kids a lot of building opportunities. I hate when building sets come with a “few” pieces and then parents/grandparents have to purchase add-ons.

What s really cool with this set is that it allows children to build various shapes in 2D and 3D…all kinds of different shapes that they can dream up. All of the pieces are perfectly sized for the small hands of children, so it is easy for them to build these shapes without the help from an adult.

The set is great for creative play and can help children to learn their colors, shapes, counting, eye & hand coordination and so forth. It does so in a fun way that really sparks their creativity.

Gia has been playing with this set for several weeks now and loves it. Does she play with it every day? No…but she does get it out and play with it pretty often. My husband loves to sit and build things with her & this set has been keeping them both very occupied which makes this grandma pretty happy! Yay!

    I like the gears, gears, gears set, and the motorized gears also, to inspire creativity in children. I had a set like this one when I was little, they did not have the curves then. I had hours of fun building.

    Learning Resources is definitely one of the coolest sites I’ve seen as far as developmental kids’ toys go. I love the Jumbo Jungle Animals Set for pretend play, the New Sprouts Bake It set for pretend cooking, and the Snap N Learn Alphabet Alligators for helping with learning the ABCs. There are so many things I’d love to have from this site.
