Fall Baking, Canning and Freezing

September 29, 2014 by Shelly

pumpkin cookiesNow that Fall is officially here, I have been really busy baking up some delicious treats for my family. Some of these we eat right away and others I freeze for use later on. Fall is a great time to be in the kitchen baking (or) canning!

For the past 2 weeks I have been baking up batches of pumpkin cookies, bread, pies, muffins and whoopie pies. I have also been making apple pies, bread, butter, apple sauce and apple pie filling. Last week I baked up a batch of pear pudding and canned a few jars of pear sauce.

Today I am making up 4 batches of my famous pumpkin chocolate chip brownies which my family goes nuts for every year. I have to admit, no one makes pumpkin brownies as good as I do!!! Sometimes I throw in some marshmallows along with those chocolate chips…yummy good!

So, now that Autumn is here…what kind of things do you like to bake (or) can during this season of the year? I am pretty passionate about stocking up for winter so I spend a lot of time in the kitchen from now through the end of October.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

I don’t know how you find the time to do all this baking as well as everything else, but I am sure that your family appreciates all the goodies, I love baking with apples and today I am making an apple pie.

My boyfriend’s favorite holiday is Halloween, I’ll make pumpkin muffins and bread. I stay away from cookies though because I’ll burn those in a minute.

Yummy at your house. I bet the smells and tastes are wonderful! A friend was recently in, and they do a lot of canning, tomatoes, coleslaw, all kinds of apple products. Fall is a great time to do baking. Warm and comforting. We bake several types of sweet bread…banana, pumpkin, and my daughter just did a blueberry. It’s also good for crockpot food like stews and casseroles. On the baking, side, Halloween novelty treats and brownies are always October must haves.

I’m particularly fond of baking with apples. For the last few years, I’ve canned a lot of apples from trees around the house, but this year the trees aren’t yielding very many apples. I still have a lot left from last year, though, so it’s okay with me. I’ll just bake up some goodies with this year’s apples. In fact, I think tomorrow I’ll bake a batch of apple blondies.
