Blueberry Milkshakes with Wyman’s of Maine Blueberries

Wyman’s of Maine BlueberriesAbout a year ago I switched my husband and I to a more healthier diet. Most of the things that we eat and drink are made from scratch. We rarely purchase processed foods anymore and it has been a change for the better.

Several times a week we make homemade smoothies, milkshakes and/or homemade ice cream. Sometimes we use fresh fruits and at other times we buy frozen. We buy only the best ingredients that we can find.

Recently I was introduced to Wyman’s of Maine who harvests and quick-freezes their fruit to bring you farm to freezer to table wild blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and mango chunks.

How Wyman’s keeps their fruit so fresh?

The best way to consume fruit is at the peak of its freshness. If you have a bush of wild blueberries in your back yard, by all means, pluck those berries off the bush and eat them immediately. If not, consuming fruit that has been IQF (Individually Quick Frozen) or flash frozen is the next best thing. To lock in the freshness and taste, Wyman’s of Maine froze their fruit within 24 hours of harvest to prevent the slow growth of ice crystals inside, which expand and destroy the cell structure, and leads to mushy fruit. Wyman’s fruit, however, will taste as fresh as the day it was picked (sans mush). The FDA has concluded that frozen produce is just as healthy as fresh and may even retain their nutritional value longer. Wild blueberries, Wyman’s of Maine’s original products are bursting not only with flavor, but with nutrients too. Wild blueberries do the body good with a higher level of antioxidants than 40 other fruits and vegetables!

For the purpose of this review I selected the fresh, frozen wild blueberries from Wyman’s of Maine. The first thing I want to say about these blueberries is that I really appreciated that when I opened the bag that I found no crushed blueberries and none were frozen together in big clumps.

I decided to whip up some homemade blueberry milkshakes for hubby and I to enjoy. I simply placed some whole milk, vanilla bean ice cream and 2 cups of partially thawed blueberries into my blender. I blended everything together for about 15 or 20 seconds. Once done, I poured the milkshakes into our cups.

These milkshakes were absolutely delicious!!! Matter of fact, later that day we whipped up a second batch with the remaining blueberries that we had. The berries were juicy and tasted like they were just picked from the blueberry bush that day!

Now that I know about this brand and have personally tried Wyman’s of Maine, I will definitely be purchasing more of their frozen fruits when I do my grocery shopping. We really loved them!
