Movie Review: frankie & alice Starring Halle Berry

frankie & alice Starring Halle BerryOne of my favorite actresses in the entire world happens to be Halle Berry…especially when she plays dramatic roles and does those types of movies. With that said, I was pretty happy to get my hands on her new movie called “frankie & alice” which I will tell you about today.

Academy Award® winner Halle Berry (Best Actress, Monster’s Ball, 2001) “gives a tour-de-force performance” (Access Hollywood) in the riveting psychological drama, Frankie & Alice, arriving on DVD (plus Digital), Digital HD, Video on Demand and Pay-Per-View August 12th, 2014 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment and Codeblack Films. Berry will “have you captivated from beginning to end” (Ebony.com) in her Golden Globe ® nominated portrayal of Frankie, a woman with multiple personalities trying to put her life back together. From the executive producers of Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, the film also features Stellan Skarsgård, Phylicia Rashad and Chandra Wilson.

The remarkable true story of an African American go-go dancer named “Frankie” who has dissociative identity disorder (DID). She struggles to retain her true self while fighting against two very unique alter egos: a seven-year-old named “Genius” and a Southern white racist woman named “Alice.” In order to stop the multiple voices in her head, Frankie (Berry) works with a psychotherapist (Skarsgård) to uncover and overcome the mystery of the inner ghosts that haunt her, and the truth that is locked inside her mind.

My Thoughts: Wow…this is one powerful movie! Halle Berry is remarkable in this film! I was completely enthralled watching her deal with all of these multiple personalities. She was totally believable in this role and I had to keep reminding myself that it is JUST a movie!

I always knew she was a great actress but she is really something in this movie. I was on the edge of my seat watching and seeing how this story plays out. It doesn’t end the way I thought it would which is a really nice surprise for me.

It is a Rated R film so you don’t want to be watching it when little kids are around (drug use, sexual content, language, etc).  The movie is about 100 minutes or so in length. I watched it with hubby and we both thought it rocked and definitely will be watching it again.

No spoilers here people…if you want to know how this story ends, go out and pick up the DVD. We highly recommend it.
