Tips on How to De-Clutter the Home

Tips on How to De-Clutter the HomeMaintaining efficiency in a home is important. Efficiency saves time, and it saves money. When the home is a mess, it takes longer to locate items. When things cannot be found, people end up buying duplicates of things. Also, messes prevent people from being on time, which means people can end up late to appointments, to work and for paying bills. All of this ends up either as additional fees or lost wages. Keeping the house organized is a necessity.

The garage is most often filled with clutter. Keeping things organized not only keeps things in their proper places, but a clean garage avoids the problem of having pests. In addition to having a tool box, it’s important to have the right accessories to work with. A snap-on tool bag can help to keep tools in their proper place and readily accessible for use. In addition, a tool bag ensures the right tool for the job is within reach. It’s important to have a quality-made tool bag that will be durable. Quality tool bags can be obtained from Toolsmith Direct and other establishments.

Living rooms can often become the source of clutter too. The living room is usually the first room people enter after coming home. Kids leave their backpacks, sweaters and shoes in the living room. Adults leave their mail and every other item that is carried in and out of the house. If items can’t be put away right away, they can be put away at the end of the day. A clever idea is to place several baskets along the wall or on the stairs for each family member. Place each family members’ items into the baskets so that they can put them away, and the room stays organized in this way.

The kitchen also tends to become cluttered for the same reasons as the living room. Either it’s the first room that family members enter or because the table offers a nice raised surface to place things. While it can be unavoidable for family members to leave their things in the kitchen, clutter can be reduced. For instance, the less items there are on the counter and table initially, the less cluttered it will appear when other items are left there. Hang pans, utensil holders and anything else on the wall to free up counter and table space.

Messes happen. By staying on top of messes, people can avoid disasters that waste time and money.

This is one of my biggest problems. I let things gather for too long and then there is clutter. I have to not only organize items, but make sure to give away or throw out things too.

It’s easy for clutter to start small and grow. The mail becomes a mountain of paperwork and tools become a massive pile of stuff. We’ve started and gotten a few things done but it’s hard. Focus on one corner and one room then move on. Give yourself time and feel good about each accomplishment. No matter how small, it helps.

  3. Yes it’s time for a visit to Goodwill to drop off some things I just do not use. I really hate tossing things so I try very hard to donate or recycle.

I am working ion this very thing. I just don’t have the strength and energy to clean my home when it’s cluttered. Not only that, I am going for the less is more approach when it comes to my decor. Donating items to our local domestic violence shelter. So it’s a win win situation.
