The Advantages of Bamboo Flooring

Bamboo flooring is relatively unknown in spite of the fact that it is beautiful, incredibly durable, versatile and eco-friendly. The material is available at nearly every location at a cost that is considerably less than alternatives woods. The product is gaining in popularity as more consumers become aware of its many benefits. It is easy to find bamboo flooring information online or by contacting local flooring companies.

There are some common beliefs about bamboo flooring that can be dispelled by thoroughly researching the product, and any consumer who is considering installing bamboo flooring should make sure all their questions are answered. Once a homeowner is satisfied that bamboo flooring is the right choice for his home, the next step is to locate the best place to purchase the product. Most flooring companies and home improvement stores have various choices of wood flooring available, and the homeowner will also be able to learn more about the product and how it is installed.

While not everyone who makes the decision to install bamboo flooring will want to do the work themselves, eliminating the cost of having their new floor professionally installed makes the project less expensive. Anyone with average construction skills should be able to look with satisfaction upon their beautiful new floor within a day or two.

Many people believe there is little variation in bamboo flooring no matter which company they purchase it from. Since bamboo is not graded like other hardwood flooring, lower priced flooring may develop certain problems. Thicker planks that are finished with aluminum oxide is the best choice. This finish is the most durable and long lasting available and works especially well with bamboo. The buyer should obtain of sample of the flooring before they purchase it and check to detect any gaps or divots that may indicate an inherent weakness of the boards. It is also essential to do a scratch test to see how the finish will stand up to whatever activity that is normal in the home.

One of the most influential facts about bamboo flooring is the fact that it is very renewable with the bamboo plant being mature within five to seven years as opposed to more than thirty years for the average oak tree. Even if the homeowner’s concerns are more about appearance, durability and cost, the fact that bamboo is so environmentally friendly is considered a plus.
