What You Need to Know about Vegan Body Lotions

July 23, 2014 by Shelly

People are always on the look out for a body lotion that’s silky, lightweight and non-greasy even as it softens the skin. Now, there are several types of such lotions to choose from, offered by such companies as Bubble Shack Hawaii.

Some of these lotions are not only vegetarian but vegan, which means they have no animal products whatsoever. One vegan body lotion features organic aloe vera as well as green tea extract, jojoba oil and other organic vegetable products that have long been known to soften and help hydrate the skin. Others have various types of shea butter and oil from the macadamia nut, a nut that’s rich in good fats.

What You Need to Know about Vegan Body Lotions

Here are the benefits of some of these ingredients:

Shea Butter
The ever popular shea butter is a fat from a nut that grows on a tree from West Africa. Rubbing in shea butter is an excellent treatment for skin conditions like wrinkles and eczema.

Aloe Vera
The gel that oozes from the cut tip of an aloe vera leaf has long been known for its ability to soothe the skin. It’s famous for its ability to heal minor burns, including sunburn.

Sweet Almond Oil
Besides its beautiful fragrance, almond oil is known for revitalizing the skin. Since it’s light, it won’t clog pores.

Green Tea
The health benefits of green tea are now so well-known that even skeptics have been won over. Green tea is simply regular tea that hasn’t undergone to processing that darker teas have gone through. This allows it to hold on to more antioxidants and polyphenols. The antioxidants alone can protect skin from damage from the sun and pollutants.

Jojoba
Jojoba oil is also used to soften and moisturize skin. Like sweet almond oil, it doesn’t clog pores. The best type of jojoba oil is cold pressed and unrefined, but free of any impurities. It’s derived from a shrub that grows in the southern deserts of Arizona and California.

Sesame Oils
Sesame oils also protect the skin from sun damage. According to researchers, it can block as much as 30 percent of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays.

Vitamin A
Vitamin A is not only an antioxidant, but has been known for centuries to support the health of the skin. Some of the most powerful skin treatments, like Retin-A, are derived from Vitamin A.

Vitamin E
Vitamin E is another antioxidant that also works well with Vitamin A to protect the skin against sun damage, toxins and pollutants.

I have never heard of these before and they sound really good. I would love to try the green tea one. I can not stand greasy lotion and ones that are heavy so I like that these are light weight.

Oh I love all these ingredients. I use jojoba oil daily on my face and swear by it. It’s the only oil I use close to my eyes and I have very few wrinkles!
