With the summer temps soaring, grilling is at an all time high. Why heat up the house when you can simply crank up the grill and cook outdoors? We love to grill and frankly my grill gets a bigger workout in the summer than my stove. Delicious ribs, chicken, veggies and more love a succulent barbeque sauce along side, but many of the store bought brands can be high in sugar. If you are watching your sugar and calorie intake, here is a tasty recipe that you can try, compliments of the folks at Sparkling ICE, to help cut the sugar out of your BBQ sauce. Less guilt and loaded with flavor, what’s not to love?
Succulent Low Sugar BBQ Sauce
Ingredients
· 1 bottle Raspberry Lemonade Sparkling ICE
· 1 white onion, chopped
· 4 cloves garlic, minced
· 2 fresh jalapeños, minced
· 3 tablespoons olive oil
· ½ cup ketchup
· 4 tablespoons Dijon mustard
· One 6 oz. can of tomato paste
· ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
· 2 tablespoons Liquid Smoke
· 3 tablespoons scotch, whiskey, or bourbon (optional)
Directions
* Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan and add the onion, garlic, and jalapeño. Lightly sauté on a low flame for 5 minutes.
* Add the tomato paste, ketchup, and mustard to the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes stirring continuously.
* Pour 1 bottle Raspberry Lemonade Sparkling ICE to the saucepan and stir until all ingredients are combined.
* Add balsamic vinegar and liquid smoke. Simmer for 25 minutes.
* Push sauce through a fine mesh strainer.
* Optional: Before you strain the sauce, mix in 3 tablespoons of your favorite scotch, whiskey, or bourbon.
Personally, I would cut the jalapeno to 1 to start, then add more, if needed. I am not fond of my sauce being too spicy but this looks like a great one to try!

We are always making new sauces for our meat and this one looks and sounds delicious!! less sugar is an extra added bonus, thanks for sharing the recipe
I need a low sugar recipe like this, on a low carb diet and this might just fit.
This sounds great, I really don’t like too much of sugar in sauces, you can’t really taste anything except of sugar
We prefer homemade sauce over store bought whenever we grill so that we can control the flavor. Heck the cost of beef, all meats, has gotten so high that it’s becoming a treat for us. I love this recipe, not only saving calories, but with less sugar comes less burning on the grill.
I’m so glad this is a low sugar recipe!
This BBQ sauce sounds great!! I would definitely add some whiskey or bourbon to the mix! I love homemade BBQ sauce. Tastes so much better than the store bought! Thanks for sharing!
This sounds delicious, we have not fired up our grill yet this summer.
