Almost everyone knows about Sesame Street and has a favorite neighbor and Muppet. In the 44 seasons that Sesame Street has been around, many parents, siblings, and caregivers have been happy to introduce the characters and guest stars to the wee ones in their lives. I loved Snuffle and hated that only Big Bird could see him back in the day. My baby brother loved them all while my kids loved Elmo and Zoe. We learned about diversity, sharing, friendship, and how to count in English and Spanish. Now that I’m an aunt, I get to share my love of Snuffle with my niece. With the release of Sesame Street: Monster Manners on June 10th, I can chase the clouds away anytime and anywhere.

Sesame Street: Monster Manners is a 90 minute long special that mixes classic material with three new stories starring Rosita, Prairie, and Cookie Monster. Adults can giggle along with their preschoolers as they learn about controlling their emotions, displaying proper table manners, and sharing. Guest stars Cobie Smulders, Colbie Caillat, Zac Efron, Henry Cavill, and David Hyde Pearce appeal to the intended audience and the gown ups in the room. I remember my teens’ energy levels were high and their attention spans short. Sesame Street’s segment lengths were perfect for them then and for my niece and other preschoolers now. As always, each is long enough to keep a child’s attention and short enough to reduce boredom.

Sesame Street is ideal children’s programming. It covers a variety of issues and activities and can help reinforce lessons learned at home or in school. When kids forget the rules, you can remind them by asking if they remember how their favorite Muppet handled a similar situation. I remember my teachers taking that approach and I did the same with my teens when they were preschoolers. My 2 ½ year-old niece squealed when I gave her a copy and we enjoyed parts of it together.
