Playing Musical Instruments

July 22, 2014 by Shelly

music guitarGood morning everyone! Another gloomy weather day here in Pennsylvania. Cloudy, dreary and gloomy. I miss the early morning sunshine and I want it BACK!

Woke up at 4am this morning with a sore throat, coughing and sinus drainage. Nice…NOT! I think it is the weather because the past 2 days it was been dreary and gloomy outside.

Today’s Topic: How many of you can play a musical instrument? What instrument can you play? Did you learn when you were a kid or as an adult?

When I was a child I learned to play the trumpet and the piano. I only took trumpet lessons for a year and hated it. I took piano lessons for 4 years and loved it. I had a piano up until I was 22 years old and then gave it to one of my nephews. I haven’t played since…not sure if I would remember how to play.

I had piano lessons for 7 years, from age 8 to 15, but have not played in a while. I am sure you would remember how to play if you started again, especially since you loved playing.

I took piano lessons as a child for a few years but that was 50 years ago! My daughter plays the violin though and I always enjoyed listening to her practice every day.

For me, it was guitar and mountain dulcimer. I taught myself to play guitar in high school, and loved playing with friends and writing songs. In fact, in my late twenties and early thirties, I played a lot in coffeehouses and some bars, and I even released a cassette tape of my songs. Shortly after that, though, I developed a chronic cough and respiratory issues that kept me from singing, and I gave it all up.

And I did get outside quite a bit today! It was lovely here in my part of Maine.

I used to play the guitar and violin, but it’s been years. Chronic illness has just made it too hard to use my hands. I wasn’t crazy about the violin, but have always love the guitar. Everyone in my family plays, my dad taught us. My brother can play anything!

I took 1 year of flute in elementary school. I wish I kept up the lessons.

Congrats to the winners!! I played the recorder when I was a child. Some of the songs I played were real basic though 🙂 I enjoyed being in choir more and I sang in choir all through school including high school. I don’t play any musical instruments now. My husband plays guitar and piano and I love listening to him play!

I played the flute from 6 grade to my Senior year in High School. I loved it but I was totally burnt out. Congrats to the winners!!
