Backyard Garden – Growing Green Bell Peppers

July 14, 2014 by Shelly

Backyard Garden - Growing Green Bell PeppersMy hubby and I love to be outside…especially when we are working around in our backyard garden or working on a new landscape project. How many of you have a vegetable garden this year?

We have two veggie gardens and both are doing extremely well. I am a little surprised about that considering all of the rain we have had & the severe storms that keep on rolling through here causing damage.

Over the weekend we started harvesting our onions, green bell peppers, hot peppers and cherry tomatoes. We finished up the harvesting of our blueberries the week before. Our red raspberries & blackberries will be ready for harvesting in another week or two along with our first crop of big boy tomatoes.

So, for those of you who have a backyard garden…how is your garden doing so far? Harvesting anything yet?

It is wonderful that your gardens are doing so well. I only have an Aerogarden and would love to plant outdoors too.

How wonderful to have a garden. I have had one in the past but have just been too sick to have one this year. But with the cost of groceries just going up and up, I will definitely have one next year. I won’t be lucky enough to have any fruits, but I will have some basic veggies to put up!

Wow that bell pepper is just wonderful you must have a super healthy garden. I don’t have anything planted this year. I will have to get all of mine from the local farmer’s market this year. I love gardening it is so relaxing and rewarding. You sound like you have a wonderful garden thanks for sharing.

I’m glad your garden is doing so well 🙂 We are making some changes in the yard this year so I didn’t get to plant any veggies unfortunately. I usually plant tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, corn and radishes. We did have an extremely good harvest of raspberries that just finished up last week. I was able to freeze over 20 bags -a quart each. Great for making smoothies on those hot summer days!! We also have pears and plums that are doing well but won’t be ready for a month or two. And our newly planted cherry trees gave us a total of 6 cherries this year LOL so I am looking forward to much more next year 🙂

Our raspberries & blackberries will be ready in another week or two. We went from having 2 bushes last year to 6 bushes this year. We have been fertilizing them with berry fertilizer and WOW…they took off! Same with our blueberry bushes which we now have 2 of those. We do have a crab apple tree & I usually make crab apple jelly & then can it in the Fall.

Every year we have been increasing the size of our garden. It is a HUGE money saver for us to grow our own fresh fruits & veggies. So far this season I have harvest some blueberries, lettuce, carrots, green peppers, hot peppers, onions and cherry tomatoes. In another 2 weeks some other goodies will be ready.

So excited for you. We often plant tomatoes and peppers in containers on our patio but didn’t this year. Our weather hasn’t been good for it, too bad. Yours sounds delicious. I love fresh veggies. They are so flavorful. I haven’t tried fruits before though. I’ll have to be making a trip to the farmer’s market soon. Enjoy all your garden’s treasures and your hard work!

    Congrats to the winners!

I would dearly love to have a vegetable, flower, herb, and butterfly garden, but we rent. I learned my lesson the hard way: One year I collected wild columbine seeds, then planted them the next spring. I had a few plants coming up in a mulched area next to the house, and was thrilled. Then I came home from work to find that the landlords had arranged to have someone come and spread another layer of mulch in the area, completely covering not only my beautiful little columbine seedlings, but also my perennial chives. Yes, I cried. Now I limit myself to container gardening, and this year I have some herbs, flowers, and cherry tomatoes (which have just begun flowering). I bring some of the the herbs and flowers indoors at the end of the growing season to overwinter them.

When I was little, my mom made us pull weeds in the garden as punishment. SO I hate working in the yard. I am guilty of not having a garden.

I enjoyed my garden but it was a lot of work since my hubby didn’t “have time” to help but he had time to eat the veggies, lol. It’s nice to try different veggie varieties.

I hadn’t checked my email yet so completely surprised to win the CipSee. I don’t mess with my phone when driving so this will really be nice to use. Thank you for brightening my Monday!

I don’t have a garden but I would love to I just have no idea if I would be any good at it. It would be wonderful to grow your own food.
