Things I Hate About Summer

June 5, 2014 by Shelly

umbrellasatbeachSummer is my favorite season of the year. As soon as summer is officially over, I start counting down the months, weeks and days until it arrives again. Living in the north east, I can tell you…our winters are long & hard…I hate them!

With that said, there are some things about Summer that I really hate and thought I would share them with all of you today.

* Bugs – mosquitoes, flies, spiders, gnats, etc.
* Snakes – despise them!
* Worms and Slugs – gross me out!
* High Heat and Humidity – anything over 90 degrees and humidity at 70% or more
* Severe Thunderstorms and Tornadoes
* Loud Music Blasting from Cars
* Dogs Crapping in my Yard (people walk them longer distances in the summer and let them crap in neighbor’s yards)
* People Who Mow Their Lawn at 5am to Beat the Heat
* Excessive Sweating
* Buildings that Don’t have Air Conditioning
* Over-Crowded Beaches
* Tourists Jamming up our Local Area (I live in a tourist area)

So, I would love to hear from you…what do you hate about Summer? Leave your comments below!

    I think your list is pretty comprehensive (and pretty funny, too). I’d add that I hate the pressure to have barbeques and other outdoor gatherings, and to have an outdoor “living space.” And I hate that the neighbors leave outdoor lights on for no reason, which not only means I can’t enjoy the night sky but also adversely affects the lightning bugs; why live in the country if you want to surround yourself with light?

    Whew. Thanks for letting me vent!

    I am in total agreement with you on everything you have on your list. I have a couple of things I hate in addition. I hate my makeup running and my frizzy hair. I also hate having to water my yard and plants…I love having them both but watering is a huge pain in the butt and wallet. I also hate how much my hubby golfs in the summer. Guess that was more than a couple…oh well. Stay cool!

    Great post! It made me smile while reading it. I dislike summer too because of the flies, spiders and slugs. I don’t do well in the sun or high temperatures so I don’t like when it gets above 80. My allergies are bad during summer which is a huge pain. I also don’t like when kids have so much free time that they entertain themselves by playing in my yard, running through my flower beds, playing hide and seek on my porch, screaming as loud as they can, etc.

    I hate the thunderstorms and the heat/humidity. Also the tourists, who drive so slow and never know where they are going. Snakes are OK with me, but the yellow jackets and other stinging insects are quite annoying.

    P.S. I just thought of some more things I hate about Summer that I forgot to add. I hate Summer hotel and airfare rates and I super hate Summer television reruns!!!!!

    Congratulations to the winners.

    I was totally cracking up reading your list and I cannot agree more. I love the loud music one! I hate that too oh and the bugs and spiders and snakes. The only thing that I can think of at the moment to add is that I hate it when parents use the Library as a baby sitter during the summer. I check out a lot of audio books and it’s like a day care center in there during the Summer the opposite of Quiet I hate that!!!

    There’s a lot of things I hate about summer, too. You just about covered them all except for children being everywhere like the store and being very loud and crying.

    I agree with Dogs Crapping in my Yard. We don’t have any pets and it makes me so mad when neighbors let their dogs crap in my yard. Yeah, just what I wanted! I go out there with a shovel and throw it in their yard. You’d think they would get the point!

    Well, let’s see. #1 is definitely the bugs, I have a bit of a phobia about some of them. I really can’t take the excessive heat, either. No air conditioning anywhere kills me. Or the humidity here in NYC (especially waiting on the subway platform!) I always hear LOUD music from cars (my bedroom window is right off the highway). I don’t have to worry about yards, or snakes, or mowing, or slugs, or anything like that because there are nothing but apartment buildings here. Another thing I don’t like about summer is that because there is no school, the kids hang out all night on the corners and THEY play loud music. (On the other hand, I’m glad there’s no snow!)

    I can not stand the bugs either!! They area awful with the bees trying to sting me. One thing that makes me mad, is when it is warm out, I leave my window open at night, and a neighbor thinks it is okay to play loud music at night! I got that stopped! Also, I seem to get more solicitors trying to sell me stuff and knocking on the front door. I can not stand people trying to sell me stuff! I agree with your list. I think it is rude to mow the lawn at 5am!!

    Congratulation to the 2 winners
    I cannot think of anything to add to your list of what to hate about summer. I guess the top ones on my list would be the bugs, excessive humidity with high heat, no air conditioning and overcrowded areas. I think that one reason people like summer more than other seasons is that that is when children had no school and families could go on vacation.
