How many of you despise public restrooms? I will be the first one to raise my hand on that! I absolutely DESPISE them and try to avoid using one as much as possible.
I know that many businesses do what they can to keep them clean and I blame a LOT of the filthy restrooms issue on the patrons who use them!!!
Last weekend I was out doing some local reviews & I am fighting a bladder infection. I had to urinate almost every 45 minutes for two days straight. So, that meant I had to visit a few public restrooms while I was out and about.
4 out of the 5 I visited last weekend were absolutely HORRID! You can tell that the establishments do the best they can but the patrons who were using these restrooms were just plain disgusting! Here are my gripes about people who use the restrooms:
* Your filthy “feminine” products belong in the trash or a disposal box made specifically for them! Quit throwing them onto the floor or the back of the toilet!
* Flush the toilet when you are done & wait an additional minute to make sure everything goes down. If not, flush again. If there is still a problem, alert the management. Just don’t walk out and go do your shopping.
* Keep your children under control in the restroom! I don’t like seeing a 2 year old’s head popping under the stall wall to take a peek at me urinating. I mean…really?
* Paper products need to be disposed of properly! I don’t want to see a trail of toilet paper strewn around the bathroom and I don’t want to see dirty, balled up paper towels laying around either. Throw them away!!!
* Parents…please dispose of your child’s dirty diaper…properly! I don’t want to see a balled up, stinky diaper laying near the sink area or left on the changing table! It is your JOB to properly dispose of the dirty diapers into the trash!!!
* Be considerate of those who are standing in-line to use the bathroom too! I always left pregnant women, children & seniors go ahead of me in the line whenever possible.
*Remember, the public restroom is for your convenience and that means you need to go in, do your business and get out! It isn’t a place for you to hang out & gossip with your friends!!!

Congrats to the winners! And you hit the nail right on the head wrt public washrooms. Some are so disgusting and you wonder what people’s bathrooms at home are like! Even some of the most expensive restaurants I’ve been to – you can tell they are filthy only because of the patrons, not because they aren’t cleaned enough.
I absolutely hate, loathe and despise public restrooms!! Especially Rest Stops! You are right, there are a lot of absolute pigs out there. Hard to believe but true. I have gone so far as to have my husband pull over on the highway rather than tinkle in a Rest Area restroom. Your list should be published and put in every public restroom around. Oh, the cleanest public restroom I have every HAD to visit, was actually at a Kangaroo convenience store. It was immaculate and I told the manager how much I appreciated it.
Okay this is Another EPIC blog post!!!! I am going to have to control myself on this one or I will be writing a book here!!! LOL I DESPISE using public restrooms and I try to avoid them like the plague!!! I have a really really really weak stomach and I cannot smell urine or #2. Even listening to someone going #1 makes me throw up!!!! I try to only go into the public restrooms that I know are clean when I absolutely have to go.
I hate it when there is no HOT water to wash my hands or paper towels! I will not use those jet air dryers they are super gross and I do not want someone’s fecal matter on my hands. Oh and those old hand dryers that use the towel roles are scary too. I agree with everything that you wrote in your post. Kids running around screaming and climbing the walls makes me want to scream! I am a germ freak/clean freak so I hate to see paper on the floor in the restroom. I am like a doctor when I wash my hands in there making sure to use a paper towel to touch the faucet and all door handles. I will be the first one to complain to management if the restroom is nasty!
People totally make me sick! I cannot count how many people go to the bathroom and then walk out the door and you can hear that they did NOT wash their hands while you are in your stall. That makes me CRAZY!!!
I was at a local grocery store and I had just used the restroom, I was washing my hands, when a woman came out of a stall wearing the grocery store’s shirt (she was an employee) and she just walked out the door without washing her hands. I walked out of the restroom and said to her “The Sink Works” and we kind of got into it! I reported her the store manager!
Another time I was using the restroom at a buffet restaurant and this woman walked out without washing her hands what made me super sick is that she was wearing surgical scrubs!!! Also it was a buffet so now I make sure I always use a napkin when touching those serving spoons that are in the food.
People are just pigs my parents didn’t raise me like that. I mean where are these people from? And what is super scary is that they look totally normal!
Please…. for the love of the Lord above PLEASE do not even get me started on Porta Potties!!! Nothing scarier than a porta potty!! I would rather go out in the woods!!!
hahahaha! I totally agree with you on the porta potty thing! I will urinate in a disposable cup behind a bush or something before I will use a Porta Potty!
I am like you…I will report employees who do NOT wash their hands after using the restroom. Sadly, too many others are lazy and don’t do that! We all need to watch out for one another when using public places and be diligent in reporting things that are just not right!!!
I am with you on everything single point you made. So glad that I am not the only one that will tell management when an employee doesn’t wash their hands. I am not a grumpy old woman on the warpath, but I am a human being looking out for my health and the health of others.
All of the above!! I think if every one of us went to management and let them know each and every time the restroom is a mess, plus posted it on the restaurant/store review, more effort might go into keeping them clean. There isn’t much they can do about the messy ladies, though. One other thing that drives me crazy is the moms who bring their almost adolescent age boys into the ladies room. Little tykes are fine, of course. But the boys who look like they are starting middle school need to go to the men’s room. These helicopter moms need to let go for a few minutes.
Oh….don’t get me started on the helicopter moms!!!
I hate using public restrooms! They are so gross! I know a children’s toy store here that has the worst public restrooms! They are dirty and smelly. I hate taking my kids in there.

I think you covered all of my gripes. I don’t understand people who leave such a mess. I am fairly sure that their bathrooms at home don’t look so bad. Besides sanitary wipes i often have a travel size Lysol in my purse and Purell and/or alcohol in the car
I think of those nasty road side rest areas, boy those can be pretty bad. I’d rather use one of my emergency devices (Go Girls, I think they’re called–now there’s a good review/giveaway device for you!) I originally purchased the set for camping. I always keep my hand sanitizer handy regardless.
