The Great Bear DVD – A Big Hairy Adventure
Every week we have our little grand daughter come over to our home for some family bonding time. On these special nights we have dinner together and then play fun games or watch a movie together. We really treasure this time that we get to have with Princess Gia.
A brand new DVD was released on June 10th, 2014 called “The Great Bear” from Vertical Entertainment. This enchanted tale is for the entire family to enjoy. We all know that finding great family entertainment can be difficult at times, so it is always nice to see new DVD releases hitting the marketplace.
Synopsis: Jonathan looks forward to summer vacations with his grand father who lives on the edge of a vast, enchanted forest that he is forbidden to enter. Annoyed that his kid sister, Sophie is tagging along this year, Jonathan does his best to lose her…and succeeds all too well when she’s kidnapped by a 1,000 year old bear the size of a mountain! Venturing into the depths of the perilous forest to rescue her, he encounters a crazed hunter, as well as a host of strange, mythical creatures and along the way, learns some valuable lessons.
Our Thoughts: We love kid-friendly and family entertainment and this DVD was right up our alley. It is rated PG and the Princess was really excited to sit down and watch it with us. What is really cool about this movie DVD is that it’s NOT another “princess” movie which we are getting really sick and tired of seeing.
The story starts out good and as it goes along…definitely gets stronger. The characters are super cute and fun! I thought maybe the Princess would be scare of the “Bear” but she wasn’t…she actually loved him the most out of all of the characters! Shocking, I know! LOL
I like that the story line included some valuable life-lessons that Jonathan had to learn while searching for his lost sister. It is always nice to see things like that in children’s movies and books.
Does he rescue her? Is she lost forever? Well, we are not going to tell you as that would spoil the ending! You have to go out and buy the DVD to find out what happens! We are giving it a big 2-thumbs up!
