Driving Pet Peeves – Stupid Motorists

June 24, 2014 by Shelly

hibiscus flowerHubby and I do a lot of traveling and most of the time that is via car. We just love taking road trips but at time…we have come across some pretty scary drivers & road rage incidents!

As you all know…we were just on vacation. We saw plenty idiots who were driving cars (who shouldn’t be) while we were on vacation. Here is some of the stupid things that we saw.

1. A twenty-something young gal sitting at the red light trying to put her nose ring in while the light had turned green!

2. A young couple switching drivers at a busy red light intersection! She hopped out of the driver’s seat, ran around the back of the car as the gentleman did the same. Errr…so dangerous & the drivers behind them were NOT happy about them holding up this busy intersection.

3. Texting and cellphone usage while driving or sitting at red lights. OMG, I can NOT tell you how many times we saw this going on during our 10 day vacation. Seriously people…STOP IT!!!

4. A Trucker sitting at a public restroom got out of his truck, stood beside his door and popped out a urinal bottle to urinate in! WTH? There are plenty of public bathrooms at this rest stop that he could of used. That totally irritated me!

5. At least 7 times during our vacation we saw stupid motorists making u-turns at intersections that CLEARLY had “no u-turns” signs posted. Sigh…people are just way too lazy to drive down another block, make a turn and come back up around!

6. While you are jamming out and enjoying your music tunes…everyone who is 4+ cars behind you doesn’t need to hear them! That’s right people, it is okay to listen to music when you drive, but if I can hear your crappy music 200 yards behind you, it is too loud! Be respectful and turn it down!

7. Children should always be in some type of car seat or at the very least (depending on age) in a seat belt. We were in the car sitting in the parking lot at Walgreens and two gals pull up. The gal in the passenger seat was holding a 1 year old on her lap. OMG, that totally irked me off!

8. Lane Switchers are one of my biggest Pet Peeves! We were on the busy Philly Expressway which is a nightmare to drive. If you have ever been on it, you already know what I mean! I am sick and tired of people crossing over 4 lanes in 3 seconds! Then…a mile later they are going back over another 4 lanes in 3 seconds! That type of crap causes accidents! When it is bumper to bumper on an 8 lane expressway…get in a lane and freaking stay there!

9. The trunk of my car is for carrying my luggage it is NOT for wearing your damn bumper! Quit the tailgating people! You are NOT going to get there any faster by riding my ass. Matter of fact, you will irk me and I will slow down to a freaking crawl.

10. Intersections are NOT for putting on make-up, digging at your nose, putting on jewelry, hand lotion, making phone calls or other nonsense! Keep your eyes on the road please and do your garbage at home before you leave.

Do you have any pet peeves regarding bad drivers? I would like to hear about them!shellysig100x60

I agree with all you peeves, although I have never (thank goodness) seen anyone using a urinal. The only ones I would add would be : Trucks which don’t tie down or contain their contents and things fall out right onto the highway or road and people who do not signal when switching lanes.

All of the above things make me livid! And the motorcycles who weave in and out of the lanes of traffic just as fast as they can and who sprint down the emergency lane or in the middle, between the lines of traffic, on the interstate when there is a slowdown. It is no wonder so many of them are killed. And now states are overturning the helmet laws so many of them are not even wearing helmets!

I used to ride a motorcycle when I was young & careless. Now that I am mature and an adult, I won’t get on them.

Oh GREAT Topic! I loved reading this one and I agree with every single one of your pet peeves regarding “drivers”. There is NO shortage of IDIOTS out there on the road.

I hate the morons that ride the center line on the rural roads that I drive on daily it’s like near miss everyday when I have to pass them coming the opposite direction. Oh and the motor cycle riders that pass me at 90 miles an hour because I am doing the damn speed limit!!!! There are tons of deer where I live and these idiots are stupid for speeding on rural roads, they get what they deserve, I just don’t want innocent people to get hurt because of them! I also hate people who pass like three cars with oncoming traffic coming.

I hate hate hate hate hate people who text and drive and who talk on their damn cell phones while driving it is against the law where I live. So many people have died because of people like this.

Oh another pet peeve that I have is the I call them “squeezers” these are the jerks that squeeze up on the right hand side of your car when you are at a red light so they can make a right hand turn without waiting for the light ot turn green. I Hate them! I can’t tell you how many times they have come close to hitting my car. Now I get as far over to the right as I possibly can so they can’t get up there next to me at all. Ha Ha – How do you like them apples!!! These people are right up there with the jerks who open their car doors ALL THE WAY open in the parking lot at the grocery store so they can ding the hell out of your car door. I Hate them!! I see several dings now on both sides of my car from these jerks. That makes me soo mad!!

I agree with you about the loud music at the red light. I was at a red light and there was this grey haired man next to me listening to the Most explicit lyrics that I have ever ever ever heard. I mean super sick sexual stuff and it was blaring. I just gave him a dirty look and pulled my car forward and rolled up my window. I hate Sickos like that!!!

I avoid the freeway like the plague these days just too many idiots for me. It gives me major anxiety to drive on the freeway. I hate hate hate the truckers nine out of ten should not be drving a go cart let a lone a big rig.

I have tons of other driver pet peeves just can’t think of the right now. Have a great day and stay safe out there it’s Thunderdome!!!

hahahahaha! You made me laugh and I totally agree with everything you said! I hate the highway and avoid it whenever I can. Those truckers…oh, don’t get me started on them! I could do an entire blog post just on them! Some are okay but wow…I have ran into some doozies over the years like the freak peeing in a urinal bottle at the rest stop! A few months ago we had one tail mom & I. We got off the highway, he followed us to Turkey Hill (a mini market). He wanted my freaking phone # for a date but lived in Indiana and was just passing through. WTH? No way, Jose!

I thought of yet more driver pet peeves that I have. Hate morons that have no clue how to use a four way stop. Also people who do not dim their headlights at night they make me nuts!

You should totally do a blog post on truckers. I know a percentage of them are hard working family men, but there is a whole other percentage that are dangerous psychos and people should know. That is sooo scary that one followed you off the road. I would have turned his ass into the company and to the police – Freak! I have heard stories out here where I live that they keep those urine bottles full and throw them at you while driving if you tick them off on the road. Some friends of mine were hit by a semi truck and injured because he was speeding on ICE! Also look at what just happened to actor Tracy Morgan because of that Chinamart I mean Walmart truck driver. I read this article in the L.A. Times about the FBI making a connection between serial killers and long haul truck drivers here is the link articles.latimes.com/2009/apr/05/local/me-serialkillers5

Thank you for yet another epic blog post. Makes me feel better to know that I am not alone with my driver pet peeves.

        God Bless

You are definitely NOT alone! I will work on that topic and get it posted sometime in the next week. They totally freak me out!

A few weeks ago three truckers got us in what they call a “rocking chair” where one truck is in front of you, one is behind you and one is to the left of you…they have you boxed in and try to mess with you. OMG…I was freaking out & scared…so I called 911 and had the state police come out and they caught up to us and pulled all of us over. He nailed those 3 truckers for their game playing with hefty fines that day.

I am SO PROUD of you for getting those PSYCHOS!!! That is just AWESOME!!!! I am really looking forward to reading your blog post. Anything that I can learn to keep myself, my family and my friends safe while on the road is much appreciated. Everyone needs to know about their little games.

            Have a great night.

I’m always complaining about this, I admit. I can’t believe the things people will do behind the wheel. Plus, I don’t understand why texting isn’t officially illegal everywhere. It is too dangerous not to be. I am always saying, “They’re texting!!!” in disbelief, and I try to stay away from them. You definitely saw some crazy drivers. I don’t want to hear your music, have my grandson – or myself – see you going to the bathroom, or have to dodge your swerving. I know we all make mistakes, but I try to quickly right my wrong. My daughter enjoys watching and is thinking about writing a story on this topic with different driving “adventures.” When she was going to college, she had plenty of stories to use. I have always told my kids to drive defensively.

Six and nine are definitely pet peeves of mine. So is someone who rides around with their turn signal on all the time so you never know when they will actually turn….

Haha! Thanks for sharing. I also tend to get raod rage like feelings when I have to drive around silly people. I live in Houston, TX, so I also have to live with horrible traffic.
One of my pet peeves is people improperly securing items to their trunks or roofs and overloading their pick-up beds and then losing stuff on roads and free-ways.

Oh my goodness! #4?!?!?! Really? That is just indecent and gross!!!

    • Shelly says

      June 24, 2014 at 1:53 pm

Yup! Definitely gross and I didn’t find it amusing! While he was doing it, he was smoking a cigarette. Once done, he walked over and poured the contents of the urinal bottle out into a trash can sitting in the rest stop parking lot! OMG…my mother and I couldn’t believe our eyes! Just totally nasty and he sure was lazy as he got back into his truck and hit the road again. Sigh…

Oh and I have another one!!!

#11. Young kids who think it is cool to have a make-out session at a red light, rest stop, retail store parking lot…etc. Not cool!

      June 24, 2014 at 12:59 pm

haha. I need to tell my son this one! just kidding….

People on their phones and kids not in car seats are definitely top of my list!

    • Chris says

      June 24, 2014 at 1:46 pm

I was behind a drunk driver one afternoon and he rear ended a car so hard, I am surprised he did not kill someone. But then he opened the back door, reached onto the floor and lifted up a stunned child by the arm and just carried the kid across the street by the arm. It looked like a rag doll. So no car seat obviously. I never so much wanted to punch someone so bad. Stupid jerk. It still steams me and that was years ago!

It’s a wonder you got back from your latest adventure in one piece! I think you covered just about all of them. One that makes me nuts is some motorcyclists. You know the ones that will pass everyone at a light or something on the RIGHT hand side? Makes me crazy!
