A Day Out With Thomas Event at the Strasburg Rail Road

However, my little grand daughter is a big Thomas fan and was pretty excited when we told her that she would be attending the Day Out With Thomas event held at the Strasburg Rail Road in Pennsylvania.

I was unable to attend so my daughter, her fiance, my grand daughter and her little cousin Joey all went together as a family on Father’s Day. They received 4 complimentary tickets to the event and had a great time. Here is what Jenelle had to say about it.

We arrived a little late due to heavy traffic through Lancaster but had no problem finding parking. The Strasburg Rail Road is really easy to locate and there are signs to guide you in. Once in there, parking is abundant, although you make have to do a little walking.

None of us have ever been to the Strasburg Rail Road before and were pretty excited that we would be spending Father’s Day as a family and doing a family friendly activity together. While walking into the venue we saw a ton of families every where, mostly with little boys and a few girls were there too.

Once we were through the gates we walked to a large tent where they showed several Thomas videos. The kids had fun watching them and all of the kids were cheering while in the big tent. You could tell they were all excited to be there. Near the tent was a gift shop where you could buy all kinds of different things to remember your special day.

We then moved on to the train station to catch the 1:15 pm train to take a ride. The kids were really excited because they had never been on a real train before. After our 10 minute wait…we boarded the train and the kids got ready for train ride through the Strasburg countryside which is full of local area farms.

The train ride lasted for 20 to 25 minutes and the kids got to see the farms, cows, horses, etc. while on the train ride. It was a comfortable ride and all of the adults really enjoyed riding the train too. After the ride was over, you got off the train and they had an area set up where you could take pictures of the kids sitting in front of Thomas or you could pay to have their photos taken professionally. We opted to take our own.

After we were done in that section we took both of the kids over to do some additional activities. One of their favorite things was getting on and riding the “Pump Car Ride” where they pumped their own little cars around a train track. This was Gianna’s first time doing something like this but she got the hang of it pretty quickly and sped around the track with Joey following closely behind.

The kids decided to get on the small train ride and really enjoyed that but not as much as riding the first train which was much larger. As they put it “We like the biggest train” more! This activity was really crowded and we had to wait a bit before the kids could get on it.

thomas shopping

Once we were done there…the kids wanted to do some shopping so we went into several of the shops that are at the Strasburg Rail Road. We left them pick out a few memorable gifts and trust me, they really had a hard time deciding on what they wanted. There were inexpensive things and then items that were a bit more on the pricier side.

We spent about 2 1/2 hours at the Strasburg Rail Road at the #DayOutWithThomas event and really enjoyed it. We had beautiful weather on Sunday here in Pennsylvania which really helped us to enjoy our day out with Thomas the Tank Engine.
