Better Homes and Hauntings by Molly Harper
A lighthearted book is always in order and this new book that will be coming out in a few weeks was the perfect read for this weekend. A good story, a bit of spookiness and a bit of romance rounded out for a fun afternoon. I am pleased to share this book I read for review.
Better Homes and Hauntings by Molly Harper
Publisher: Pocket Books
Publishing Date: June 24, 2014
ISBN-13: 978-1476706009
Synopsis: Author of the beloved Half Moon Hollow series of vampire romances (Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs), Molly Harper has created a standalone paranormal romance in which a dilapidated haunted house could bring star-crossed lovers together—if it doesn’t kill them first!
When Nina Linden is hired to landscape a private island off the New England coast, she sees it as her chance to rebuild her failing business after being cheated by her unscrupulous ex. She never expects that her new client, software mogul Deacon Whitney, would see more in her than just a talented gardener. Deacon has paid top dollar to the crews he’s hired to renovate the desolate Whitney estate—he had to, because the bumps, thumps, and unexplained sightings of ghostly figures in nineteenth-century dress are driving workers away faster than he can say “Boo.”
But Nina shows no signs of being scared away, even as she experiences some unnerving apparitions herself. And as the two of them work closely together to restore the mansion’s faded glory, Deacon realizes that he’s found someone who doesn’t seem to like his fortune more than himself—while Nina may have finally found the one man she can trust with her bruised and battered heart.
But something on the island doesn’t believe in true love…and if Nina and Deacon can’t figure out how to put these angry spirits to rest, their own love doesn’t stand a ghost of a chance.

My Thoughts: I never thought about reading books about haunted houses before. I don’t think I would go looking for one anyway. But as a Avid Scooby-Do watcher in my younger years, why not, I say? While I was thinking it was more like The Amityville Horror, this book was the complete opposite! It was a fun read that captured my attention much more than I thought it would!
I read another Molly Harper book last year, How to Run with a Naked Werewolf, and I was just as perplexed about the subject matter as with this book. But the way the author has written this story, it shows me that the old adage “never judge a book by its cover” is definitely in order here.
The book is a lighthearted read with fun characters that you want to get to know. They seem like old friends that you feel comfortable spending a few afternoons with. The book is well written and the plot was unique and well developed too. Plus it is a Pocket Book so you can easily stick this into your purse and read it anywhere! I love that book size still! I always have a few stashed in my bag!
You know you need to bookmark this one and place it on your wish list or pre-order it. Easy to read and it will capture your interest. I am putting Molly Harper on my own watch list so I can keep an eye out for all of her new releases. She takes to not so ordinary, gives it a cool twist and offers you a refreshing read.
