Movie Review: The Deep End
During the weekends I love to sit down and watch a good movie. The types of movies that I am drawn to are thrillers, action flicks, war movies and some horror thrown in for good measure. If a movie doesn’t grab my attention within the first 20 minutes, I move on to something else. Yes, I am pretty picky when it comes to watching a good flick!
Today I wanted to tell you all about a recent movie that I had the pleasure of watching. It is called “The Deep End” and was recently released onto blu-ray and DVD on May 6th, 2014. It is classified as a thriller but trust me…if you love drama, I think you will enjoy it too.
Synopsis: Still waters run deadly in this gripping suspense thriller about the extraordinary depths to which seemingly ordinary people will sink in the name of love. Tilda Swinton “is magnificent” (The New York Times) as housewife Margaret Hall, a fiercely protective mother caught in a vortex of deception when it appears that her son may be guilty of murder. One desperate act leads to another, and soon she’ s being blackmailed by the mysterious Alek Spera (Goran Visnjic, TV’s E.R.).
My Thoughts: The movie is centered around a mother named Margaret Hall who is overly-protective of her son (in a good way) and when her son is accused of murder, she has her doubts on whether he did it or not. After a little bit of time, she investigates it herself and firmly believes that her son is innocent. During her investigation a man named Alek Spera finds out that she is digging into the case and tries to blackmail her to stop. Like any good momma bear who is protective of her cub…her claws come out and she fights back against her blackmailer and tries to clear her son’s name.
The movie stars Tilda Swinton, Goran Visnjic, Jonathan Tucker and Josh Lucas…all of them did a great job with their acting in this movie. Frankly, they were all perfect for the parts they were playing.
The movie starts out strong, got a tad predictable in the middle but finished up strongly. It is definitely a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. Of course, I never giveaway the final plot here on our blog as I don’t believe in 100% spoilers. With that said, I do recommend that you pick this one up if you enjoy a good thriller!
