Memorial Day Traditions
It is Memorial Day weekend! Also fondly looked at by many as a 3 day weekend. A time to have backyard BBQ’s, hit the beach or just relax and enjoy not working. But it is also a time of remembering our fallen heroes that have given their all for our country. I like to try and honor them somehow during this important day. Flying the Red, White and Blue is a tradition at our home and when possible, we take time to visit our local national cemetery to offer our silent thanks and enjoy the beauty of the flags they place at each headstone. It is an experience and a fitting memorial.
Our local town started a tradition last year for Veterans Day at the local community college called Merced Field of Honor where they flew 1000 flags in memory and thanks for our vets. It was a stunning display and I took this picture and thought it would be fitting for today’s post.
Do you an your family have special plans or activities that you do on Memorial Day weekend? My hubby works a fly in at the local airport with the police cadets each year, so he is gone all weekend and my son is off goofing around with his buddies, so I am enjoying the peace and quiet! It is refreshing and I am thankful for that!
