Large Tortoise at Cape May County Zoo in New Jersey

April 1, 2014 by Shelly

Large Tortoise at Cape May County Zoo in New JerseyMy husband and I are huge fans of visiting zoos and wildlife parks. As of right now, we have visited over 57 different zoos and parks here in the United States and every year we make a point to go and visit a new zoo or park that we had never been to before.

For my “almost” wordless Wednesday post for this week, I am sharing a photo with all of you that I took of this gigantic turtle that I saw down at the Cape May Zoo last September. We love that zoo and visit it twice every year.

When I say “gigantic” that is an understatement! If I wanted to hop onto his shell for a ride, I would need someone to help me get on him. He/She is HUGE!!! I love turtles (I have 2 pet turtles in an aquarium in our family room) and think they are beautiful. My daughter though…thinks turtles are ugly.

So…I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I think they are a fabulous animal!!! If I was that large and that heavy, I would be as slow as a turtle too! hahaha! Enjoy!

Although I love zoos I have not visited that many. but we have always enjoyed those that we did visit. The large sea turtle in the photo has a very attractive shell.

Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder, but I think this turtle is amazing. I would love to take my grandson there. He has a pet turtle and the idea of one big enough you want to ride just blows the mind. Zoos are wonderful places. So many amazing animals and breathtaking scenes. It’s great when you can take the time to really enjoy them. Do you have your next zoo planned?

I am not much of a religious person but ig I was “god” would be Mother Nature. She has done an awesome job at ensuring variety inour world and everything including what we consider ugly features are so purposeful and therefore beautiful!

57 zoos and parks! I’m impressed. I like the colors of the turtle’s shell.

I want a ride too! My nephews have small turtles. They are fun to watch when they swim.

I think he/she is beautiful too. I think turtles are so sweet and cute I really flip out for sea turtles too. I LOVE going to animal parks, zoos, and aquariums. I am just a huge animal lover and am a member of the ASPCA and PETA. I like to donate to these kinds of groups and to the local wildlife rehabilitation center.

Well, I’m with you–I think he/she is beautiful, too! What a lovely animal, and probably very old, too.

As much as I love living in a fairly remote and rural area, I miss having access to things like museums and zoos. Thank goodness for the internet!

I love all kinds of animals and we were blessed growing up, to have Jack Hanna as director of the Columbus Zoo, which I enjoyed visiting. He still gets around, teaching us all about animals.
