Todd Oliver: Funny Dog DVD Family Friendly Comedy

I love dogs and I love comedy, so I was ready for some big time laughter when I received Todd Oliver: Funny Dog Man’s Best Friend Finally Talks Back!, a family-friendly stand-up comedy DVD, for review. This recently released DVD features Todd Oliver, who was named as one of the top-five ventriloquists in the world by the late night-king, David Letterman. Todd brings his unique blend of comedy to video now, but you may have seen him recently on America’s Got Talent, where he appeared as a semi-finalist. I know I remembered seeing him and I especially remembered his black and white “talking” dog, Irving (pictured at the right). You can tell that Todd and his dogs do this act frequently and the dogs definitely know the drill. Todd’s show typically travels around the country and performs on stages big and small.

Todd not only uses dogs as part of his act, but he also uses audience members and of course, ventriloquism dolls. My son’s first thought was that, “puppets are creepy” and yes, I’ll go ahead and agree with that, but these puppets will definitely make you giggle, possibly even guffaw. Yep, I said guffaw.

What I really love about Todd is that his dogs are all rescue pets, which is something I feel passionate about. Making his dog family part of his act is definitely unique and a good time for the whole family. My son and I both enjoyed the video. It’s refreshing to be able to watch something that can make adults and kids both laugh—I would definitely categorize it as a family-friendly comedy with some jokes that slightly went over my nine year old’s head (he didn’t quite get some of the Kardashian humor). It didn’t make either of us enjoy it any less. We still laughed plenty and I even had to replay a few parts for him.

Get your popcorn ready and sit back with your family to watch Todd Oliver: Funny Dog with its interesting cast of characters, including, of course, his canine sidekicks. This video is about 60 minutes long, can be purchased from a variety of places, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble and it is available for around $15. You can’t beat that for a night of family entertainment in the comfort of your own home!
