The Tornado Outbreak

April 29, 2014 by Shelly

hibiscus flowerGood morning everyone! The weather is terrible in the middle part of the country and our hearts & prayers go out to all of those who are affected by the nasty tornado outbreak. We are in for a very rainy & windy ride here in PA over the next 3 days with 5 to 8″ of rain expected. Flood watches are already up and I am sure the warnings are going to follow soon.

Today’s Topic: Have you ever been directly affected by a Tornado? Do you know what to do if a tornado comes your way? Do you and your family have a safety plan in-place and ready to go?

When I was a teenager we got slammed by a tornado and it is something I will never forget. To this day, I get riled up when severe thunderstorms & weather comes our way…so much so that I take something to calm me down when it happens. My family does have a safety plan in-place, emergency provisions to last us a week, etc. We also get hit my hurricanes, tropical storms, blizzards, etc. so we must always remain prepared here.

    No I haven’t seen a tornado yet.
When the siren blows I get my two cats & going to the basement level.
And I have my portable radio with me.

I have never experienced a tornado before, but I can only imagine how terrifying it must be to be in the middle of one.

Fortunately, I’ve never experienced the terror of a tornado first-hand. Ever since I was a kid, tornados have featured in my recurring nightmares, and since severe weather is getting more and more common, I worry that it’s just a matter of time. We do have a plan for emergencies, and I always know right where to go should a tornado head my way.

My heart goes out to the victims of the most recent outbreak. And I understand that the danger is not over as the storm moves eastward. So sad.

Tornados are a real scarey part of Mother Nature!! I live in Dwight Illinois and a couple of years ago we were hit with a tornado that totally wiped out one of the trailer Parks in Town. Also destroyed several homes and did a lot of damage to a lot of homes all around us and behind us. Including the Public high School right down the road from our house. We could, hear the tornado brush right by our house and hit one of our trees and did damage to the house behind us. I hope never to have that happen again! My Prayers are with all the people that are in the path of all these deadly tornados.. God bless~~

I’ve been in many tornadoes, growing up in Ohio. I still have dreams about the time my mom, sister and I had to huddle down in the basement of a department store to wait out a tornado. My cousin earned his doctorate in meteorology and was for a time living in Oklahoma. Glad he is out of there now and safe. I could watch The Weather Channel all day: it fascinates me.

    Congratulations to the 2 winners.
I am very glad never to have been in a tornado. I am praying for all those in the paths of the tornado
.Hurricanes have struck here and they were bad enough. We have emergency supplies: foods, batteries. lights. etc set aside for any power outages, etc.

I have never been in a tornado! I think that it would be very scary and then to come out alive from it, and have your home demolished is so terrible. I am praying for all the victims of the tornado. I think it is so devastating to have your house damaged and to lose your home. I am so sad to hear of the deaths from the storms.

I don’t live in “tornado alley” but here in NC we get our fair share of them. There were several bad ones just NE of where I live just last Friday. They are expecting some more this afternoon with the outbreak of of some severe thunderstorms heading our way from the south. I’m so afraid of them and thunderstorms that when we built our house I refused to have any big trees planted close to the house for fear of them falling on us. Be safe everyone!
