I have a love for cooking at home—which really means that I enjoy finding recipes, shopping for the ingredients and then having my husband work his magic and make the recipe into a reality. He is the chef of the household and he seriously loves to cook. Olive oil is a staple in our home and we are always trying different brands and types to see how they measure up in his recipes. We were both looking forward to giving the Mentis Estate Olive Oil that I received for review a test run.

There are many Greek things that I think are pretty great. The Olympics, Greek yogurt, John Stamos (yes, I still think Uncle Jesse is pretty awesome) and now you can add this Olive Oil to the list. Mentis Estate Olive Oil is an exquisite olive oil that is hand-picked from olive trees located in Neapolis, Laconia and pressed carefully by local artisans. This extra virgin olive oil s a pure unblended olive oil, with an acidity of less than 0.5%, well-balanced characteristics described as pine, floral, nutty, buttery and pungent with a hint of artichoke. The area in which the olive trees are grown for the Mentis Estate Olive Oil is a microclimate offering fertile soil and perfect Mediterranean weather. Mentis Estate has produced olive oil for three generations harvesting the Athenolia olive variety.
We truly enjoyed this olive oil and used it in a variety of ways. My husband made his homemade marinara sauce with it and he said it added wonderful flavor and balance to his recipe. I agreed! He also made one of my favorite recipes last weekend for a dinner party, which is a pepper mustard filet mignon. The recipe calls for olive oil and he used the Mentis Estate Olive Oil and it definitely was a harmonious addition. During that same dinner party we also served the olive oil with some rustic country bread and wow—that was a treat! The olive oil was delicious and we couldn’t stop dipping the bread into it. It’s a beautiful color, it tastes wonderful and it is affordable as well.

The Mentis Estate Olive Oil is available for $13.95 and can be purchased on the Recipiada web site. To preserve the integrity of this extra virgin olive oil, only limited quantities are available. This would make a lovely addition to anyone’s kitchen and would also make a very nice gift for someone – wrap it up with some pasta noodles, a colander and a kitchen towel and you have an instant gift.
