My son and his friends have obsessions with certain TV shows. They power watch all episodes that are available on Netflix or Hulu and will hole up for hours and days at a time watching a show from beginning to current episode. Madmen is one of my son’s favorite shows and another is Game of Thrones. I have heard of the shows because of my son, but yesterday he was working on homework out front and wanted to watch Game of Thrones on demand while working. So mom watched some of it too.
Honestly, I do not know why this type of show has the younger generation obsessed with it. Based on a book and set in like the 1400’s in Scotland or somewhere similar, Game of Thrones is basically a show with a massive amount of characters that betray one another, kill and torture one another all for the sake of some young king somewhere. There was no way to follow the story for me because of the amount of people in it and at least 7 different story threads going on in one show. Plus it is a dark story. No, thanks not for me.
Do you watch Game of Thrones? Do you enjoy these types of stories? I am not sure why the younger set is obsessed with it other than the nudity and sex, which they seem to have often. Strange…
I am in my late 30’s and I love Game of Thrones. My love comes from the books, however. I was fan of the book series long before a TV show was even thought of. I do agree that it is dark and there is a lot of violence and nudity but that does not bother me. It is an adult show, on a premium cable network and of course I don’t let my children watch it. It’s one of only a couple of show my husband and I watch together. There are a lot of characters and they have added a lot of stuff into the show that is not in the books (ie: sex, a lot of brothel stuff). The books can get even more confusing with characters with similar names and history stories of the world being scattered throughout. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but if we all liked the same things this world would be rather dull. 🙂
I haven’t been able to get into GOT, but my husband and I LOVE House of Cards. For the second season we are waiting so we can watch all of the episodes in one sitting! No better way to watch these soap operas.
I don’t get the attraction either. I watch mostly PBS. Saw some clips and it didn’t interest me. Also don’t get the vampire attraction with some as well. No worries to me.
I’ve never seen Game of Thrones. I know it’s very popular, though. There’s something about a show that takes place so long ago that just doesn’t seem to capture my interest. Who knows, maybe I’ll tune in one time and discover I love it!
Congratulations to the winners.
I have not seen Game of Thrones doesn’t sound like one I would like at all. What ever happened to that rating system? Do they even have that anymore? Rated R movies are more like NC-17 or worse X.
I made the horrible horrible horrible mistake of checking out the movie “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” from the Library and I was APPALLED. I called to complain that this movie was on the shelf for anyone of any age to check out. I do like Madmen and have power watched all of those episodes.
Congratulations to the 2 winners.
No, I do not watch Game of Thrones. I find it to be too dark and to understand it you need to watch all episodes. My adult sons do enjoy it.
