Prime New York Strip Steak with Cooking Tips

March 29, 2014 by Shelly

Today I would like to introduce you to the gourmet food company called Sunrise Specialty Foods based out of the great state Pennsylvania, my home state! The company has been in business for over 20+ years and offers nationwide shipping and they deliver close to 500 homes in the Pittsburgh, PA. area.

The company offers over 100 premium quality food items such as: USDA Prime Beef, Chemical-Free Wild Caught Seafood, Bison, Elk, Free Range Chicken and more! Every item is individually vacuum packed, flash frozen and delivered to your front door. These are all high-quality food products, that just can’t be found in your local neighborhood grocery store. The company offers free shipping on all orders over $200.00, so fill up that freezer and save! Everything comes nicely shipped in a cooler with lots of dry ice to keep them frozen.

The company sent us a package of their Prime New York Strip Steaks to try out for all of you. Before I get to our thoughts on these steaks, I wanted to share a few steak cooking tips with all of you.

Prime New York Strip Steak

1. Always select the best cut steaks that you can personally afford. A better cut of meat will always taste better than a cheap cut.

2. You should always cook your steaks from their “thawed” state and you should always thaw meat in the refrigerator, never at room temperature!

3. Use lemon juice or olive oil at a meat tenderizer.

4. Let your steaks sit on the counter for 15 minutes to “rest” before starting the cooking process. Do not let them sit out in extreme heat.

5. Remove them from the heat 2-3 minutes before they are done cooking and let them sit in the pan. They will finish cooking in the pan and reabsorb some of their juices, making for a more flavorful and juicier steak!

6. Typical Steak Cooking Times (grill or broil): For rare cook 6 minutes for medium cook 8 minutes and for well done cook 10 minutes, turning once during the cooking process. These times will vary depending on the cut and thickness of the meat.

Medium to Well Done Steaks

Our Thoughts: Sunrise Specialty Foods sent us a package of their Prime New York Strip Steaks. We are BIG steak eaters here in our home and enjoy steaks at least once a week. When we purchase them, we are very picky about the ones we select. We like the best cuts of meat, we like them super thick and lean with very little to no fat on them.

Making a juicy steak is a very easy process. We like to brush extra-virgin olive oil onto both sides of our steaks and then season them with McCormick’s steak seasoning. We let them sit in the pan at room temperature for about 15 minutes and then grill or broil them to perfection. We broiled ours this time until they were medium to well-done.

These steaks were absolutely delicious! They were moist, tender and very flavorful. They were so tender that I only had to use a butter knife to cut mine up. These were some of the best steaks we have ever had and highly recommend them to all of you.

Oh, those steaks have my mouth watering. If I had a freezer, I’d order some, for sure. Thanks for the tips; I don’t usually cook steaks indoors, but I do have a nice grill pan, and you’ve got me thinking I should keep an eye out for a good buy on some steaks soon.

My husband and I love steak…when we go out we want a good steak, and it can be very costly. Buying nice cuts at the store are too so you want to make sure the meat is good. Glad that this company uses high quality meat for delicious steaks. Yum!

Wow, these sure look and sound good! I don’t eat steak much, but after reading this post I just might change that! I never thought of brushing them with EVOO before – but it sounds like a great way to flavor them up! Thanks for the idea!
