Soap is soap, right? Not always. Some soap is gentler on sensitive skin, some bars have added colors and artificial fragrances, and some soap is loaded with extra moisturizers for a more luxurious bath. Back in the day, way back, there was only one. Everyone used one kind of soap; a simple, basic bar that people used for everything. It had no funky or artificial ingredients. Since then, progress gave us automated production techniques which gave birth to variety and the hundreds of different soap brands and styles on the market. But there are some who embrace and celebrate the old ways and still product old school, natural, simple soap. Remwood Products is one such company. Remwood Products is a Tulsa-based soapmaker who jumped in with both feet in 2002. Thanks to them, we have Grandma’s Pure and Natural Lye Soap and it was a winner from day one.
Grandma’s Pure and Natural Lye Soap is a pure, chemical free soap made without the use of dyes, additives, or harsh chemicals. Made with just food grade lard, lye, and water, it’s an old school formula that never goes out of style.
The bar itself is huge. We’ve put this bar through the wringer and haven’t put a dent in it. Four people do a lot of hand washing, especially while working on cars, cleaning brush after an ice storm, and garden prep. The whole family likes it. Our hands are not drying out even with the frequent washing and the soap removes everything it needs to remove. A Shampoo/Shave Bar, Baking Soda Bar, a gentle detergent-free baby soap, goat’s milk soaps, sports formulas, and herbal soaps round out Grandma’s soap inventory. Grime Away, a bar with olive oil, lard, Pumice, and corn grits, is tested and recommended by the National Home Gardening Club. Hubby and Teen Boy may need a bar if their car restoration project plans stay on point.
This time of year, my skin is a wreck, especially my hands and feet. I moisturize and use richer soaps in the attempt to baby the dry winter skin and usually apply something after and between hand-washings. Finding a product for daytime use that works without leaving residue is not always easy. Grandma’s Winter Hand Soother arrived just as a cold snap hit full swing. My hands were in horrid shape, even cracking a little. A little of the winter Hand Soother three times a day did the trick without leaving the residue. Skipping an application during the workday was not an issue because the moisture lasts. Just waiting a few minutes before getting back to the keyboard or kitchen project was all the time the lotion needed to soak in. No more slippery grip! The 2 oz. bottle ($6) is perfect for travel. A 4.1 oz. bottle ($8) is also available. Grandma’s also has lotions formulated for gardeners, quilters and crafters, and knitters.
If your skin dries in winter, then your lips may, too. Grandma’s Lip Soother ($3.25) is a classic lip balm that’s free of scary ingredients and has SPF 15. It goes on smoothly and doesn’t have a waxy feel. Pick up a couple and share.
If you want to use skin care products with short ingredient lists, Grandma’s line is one to consider. No strange things went in, so no strange effects are felt by your skin. With prices on the lower spectrum, these products are affordable as well. Pick up a few bars and bottles of lotion as a treat for yourself or pick up an assortment and share. No matter how you go, you’ll enjoy the experience.

I have been interested in more natural products so I might give this manufacturer a try. Morepver it is an American company. The Grime Out soap sounds very promising too.
I’ve been a faithful Dr. Bronner’s customer for years for all the soap uses in my house, but I do find their classic liquid soap too drying on my hair. I may try this one and see how it goes1
I have to admit I love it just for the name, lol. Marketers know the word Grandma gets you thinking about more natural products. I’ve always wanted to make my own soap but it seems like it takes a lot of time. These are worth checking out. I use lip balm rather than gloss or stick, so this would work for me.
I love all natural products and this soap looks like a really good one to help me keep my skin from drying out, and I need the lip balm for sure in the winter when my lips get so chapped. These products sound amazing.
I have an addiction to natural bath products. I have very sensitive skin and would break out in a rash when I used various soaps, shower gels and lotions. Since I have switched to all natural bath products I haven’t had a single rash.
I love natural skin products! The grime away bar sounds especially useful…I think I’ll need one of those once it finally warms up enough to start my garden.
