Just like most little girls in this world, my 4 year old grand daughter is really into anything having to do with Barbie. When I say she is a big Barbie fan, it really is an understatement! She owns over 40+ dolls, accessories and DVDs.
Being released on March 11th, 2014 is a brand new Barbie movie called “Barbie The Pearl Princess“. Yes, it is the same one you have seen advertised all over TV. Ever since she saw that very first commercial, she has been begging me for the DVD.
Synopsis: Barbie stars as Lumina, a mermaid who dreams of being a princess. As long as she can remember, she’s had a magical power that makes pearls dance and glow! Lumina and her best friend Kuda, a pink seahorse, embark on an adventure to a majestic mer-kingdom. There, she uses her powers to help her friends prepare for the Royal Ball. Lumina then discovers that her magical pearls are the key to unlocking her true destiny and ultimately saving the kingdom.
Our Thoughts: I invited my little grand daughter over for a sleepover and movie night with me. She was super excited that Nanny had “goodies” for her. She was in my door no more than 5 minutes and the movie had to be put on! Excited she was! Holy cows, she could hardly contain herself!
I popped some popcorn and we sat down to watch it together. It has a really nice and entertaining story line that even I enjoyed. The graphics and characters are just too cute! The total run time of the movie is 1 hour and 14 minutes which is plenty long enough for small children. It completely held her attention the entire time, matter of fact, her eyes were glued to the TV and barely left the screen.
The movie/DVD comes along with some included bonuses: 3 music videos, a Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse episodes and more. I love when “extras” come on the DVD. Princess Gia was up and singing right along with Barbie during those fun music videos!
To go along with the DVD we also received the “Barbie The Pearl Princess” fashion doll where Barbie is totally decked out in her Lumina character. The doll is for ages 3 and up.
The doll does NOT have any removable clothing (just make note of that) but does come with removable plastic purple pearls that are wound through her hair. Girls can remove those and restyle Lumina’s hair into a design that they like. We all know that little girls do that with their dolls all of the time.
In addition, the doll comes with a turquoise plastic colored hair comb and when not in use, it tucks into the mermaid tail which is a really cute feature. This doll has quickly become her new best friend! After movie time, her new Lumina doll made it into the bath tub with her…for a swim! She loves that doll!!!
