Gardening: California Poppies

March 25, 2014 by Classystaff

One of the reasons I love spring so much in California is that is when the California Poppies bloom. They do not last very long – only about 2 or 3 weeks, but when they do come out, it is stunning. We have a section of freeway that runs from my town up to the next town and they threw millions of poppies seeds on the side of the freeway and in the center median when they did some upgrading several years ago.

California Poppies

What a delight it is to drive that section of the highway and see the amazing color of these poppies. I love the orange because it is such a happy color! I spied these blooming along a side road this weekend so I stopped to grab a snap to share with you. This is my Welcome to Spring notice.

I can’t wait for the flowers to start blooming here. The poppies look very beautiful where you live. I would love to travel to see them some day.

Glad you all enjoyed this. I love poppies. I will see if I can snag a picture of the freeway this week without getting run over! It really is impressive. 🙂

Very beautiful! We are entering our wildflower season here in Texas as well. We have bluebonnets and firewheels and this is the season when everybody posts pictures of their little kids in fields of bluebonnets!!
We are actually planning on going on a daytrip Sunday out on some country roads to enjoy the views ourselves.

It is so nice to see the Poppies in bloom and the colors are so pretty. I can not wait until I have flowers where I live blooming and my tulips will look so pretty! Thanks for sharing the picture.

So pretty! They were just blooming wild, by the side of the road? Gorgeous! I have not seen anything come up in NY yet – not even crocus, which is the usually the first one to poke its head up. But I’m looking! (We’ll see, they are talking about MORE snow possibly tonight!!!)

This weekend? I saw some daffodils this week, but that’s all that’s blooming right now. Snow in the forecast for tomorrow night.

They are so pretty thanks for sharing. I would also love to see that part of the freeway that you are talking about. That is nice that they did something to make it prettier. I love Spring so much I wish it would last longer it is my favorite time of the whole year.

Oh, how lovely! Thank you–I needed that. We’re expecting a blizzard tomorrow. Even crocuses seem far far away at this point…
