Good morning! Happy Friday!!! Beautiful sunshine here today but still cold. Our high’s today will be around 28 degrees. Depressing…but at least no snow or ice for today. Our next round of snow is coming on Sunday and then they are predicting a big Valentine’s Day snow storm. As you all know, I am just very tired of this crappy winter weather!
Today’s Topic: What is the weirdest food delicacy that you have ever eaten? Was it something you enjoyed here in the states or something you enjoyed overseas? Are you adventurous when it comes to trying out new foods or do you stick to classics you have already tried?
I don’t get “into” weird food but the strangest thing I tried was deep-fried frog legs when I was 16 years old and spending the summer down in Mexico at my grandparent’s villa. Hated those frog legs and never touched them again.

I lived & went to college in Kenya for one college semester and for financial reasons I usually ate breakfast and sometimes lunch at the school cafeteria. They always served what I thought was scrambled eggs… and they were pretty good – if somewhat different, I thought they must be some other kind of egg – like duck or goose. One day I made the mistake of asking… and it turned our they were not scrambled eggs – they were scrambled BRAINS! I’m ashamed to say that I stopped eating them after I found out – even though I enjoyed them when I thought they were just eggs…
As a vegetarian I think of weird food as anything you eat that that had a face and cared for it young!
Congrats to the winners.
I tried snails in Germany and squid in Greece. Liked the snails (garlic!) but not the squid (tough).
I was at one of those all you can eat buffets once and got what I thought were hotwings..it was frog legs.As soon as I took a bite I gagged lol
Good luck with the snow. Here, too. We are in double digits today at least which is more than can be said for the couple. Foods-I think I’ll try things. I’ve had alligator tail in Florida, and my son had us try shark and swordfish. I prefer the “normal” things for our area, but anymore there really isn’t a “normal.” I believe in trying almost everything at least once. Although, I have to say if I was on Fear Factor I’d lose.
Hang in there with the snow Shelly. I do feel your pain here in LA where we had a Flex Alert yesterday because of the high energy needs on the East coast (weird but true). It knocked out my internet for 22 hours so playing catch up today. With new foods, I’ve tried seaweed and not interested in testing my sensitive stomach any further.
I grew up in Germany where some foods that would be considered gross are pretty common. Firsts that come to mind would be bloodsausage and horsesausage.
I never ate horse, but I had bloodsausage and did not care for it. I am not a very adventurous eater so I do not try too much crazy foods.
Chocolate covered ants. I swear. And no, they didn’t taste like chicken. (I was young and stupid).
Congratulations to the 3 winners.
I had frog legs in France and they tasted fine. I have eaten whale, tripe and brains, but no bugs or snake. I am usually willing to try something new.
As you said today is cold , but not too bad and at least no snow today.
I am trying to think about what I have eaten that is strange. The only thing I can come up with is crab legs. I did not like them. I do not like crab and lobster! But frog legs sound awful!
I tried rattlesnake and it was like chewing on a rubber band it was awful!!
