Sweet N Sour Asian Meatballs Recipe

February 13, 2014 by Classystaff

Today I want to share a super simple recipe that I have been making for years. It is a wonderful appetizer for any situation and you can even pair it with other Asian style foods as a side dish. Around these parts I am known for this dish and I am often asked to bring it to functions and when it is Bunko night with the girls. Just thinking about writing this post has made me crave them, so what is cooking right now… This recipe for Sweet N Sour Asian Meatballs.

This is almost embarrassing how simple this recipe is but I guarantee once you try it, you will not want to change it. Plus it is so easy, I am not even using the form 🙂 Here we go:

2 lbs frozen meatballs – or your homemade ones, cocktail size
1-2 Cans of Contadina Sweet & Sour Sauce

In a large sauce pan, add the meatballs and 1 can of the sauce, to start. Stir well to coat all meatballs. Cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring often. You may add the additional can, or part of it, if you want more liquid or the meatballs are not coated enough. Check often, as this will scorch since it has sugars in it.

I have tried many different types of sauces and this one by far tastes the best and gets the most compliments. You can add a small amount of pineapple chunks, without the juice, if desired. I prefer these coated but without excess sauce, so be careful on how much juice, pineapple or sauce you use. You want the sauce to stick to the meat for the best taste.

It is a fast and easy appetizer and side that you can whip up quick! Hope you enjoy it!

Wow – I was bracing for a long and hard recipe – this really is super easy! I love the Asian slant. Nothing I hate more than making n appetizer that nobody likes, I feel like a wilted flower at the very beginning of an event. So embarrassing!

These are super easy. I thought Contadina only made pizza sauce so that was a surprise to learn they made sweet and sour too!

I can’t believe how easy this recipe is. I think the secret is the sugars in the sauce caramelizing and sticking to the meatballs. I shall have to try it soon. Thanks
