Good morning! I am here to b*tch, moan and complain once again. We had more snow over the weekend and another 2-4″ is coming for tomorrow! WTF is going on here? So far, this is our third snowiest winter season…EVER! Everyone around here is in a foul mood and most people are sick, literally!
Today’s Question: It is cold and flu season across the country. Spring is only 4 1/2 weeks away. With that said, there are still plenty of colds and the flu going around. I would like to know what are some of your best cold & flu season prevention tips? When you do get sick, how do you cope and get through it?
Best of luck in the hospital, Shelly. I’ll keep a good thought for you.
I have respiratory issues that leave me vulnerable to colds and flu. When I get sick, I just hunker down, rest, drink lots of tea with honey, and take whatever OTC medications fit my symptoms. I also stay away from public places so I don’t spread it around.
Congratulations to the 2 winners.
I agree that this has been a hard winter so much snow and illness. I am sorry that you have been sick so often and are sick again. I do believe in taking extra Vitamin C, Echinacea and Zinc and a lot of hot drinks – herbal and tea – and homemade chicken soup.
So sorry you are still having to deal with this aweful winter.
We are not big on taking a lot of medicine, but after a lot of trial and eroor we both really like the Alka Selzer Cold and flu medicine. We also drink a lot of herbal teas, do herbal flu remedy baths, eat foods slightly higher in Sodium to help retain water, drink lots of juice and try and get lots of rest and sweat it out.
If I am very, very ill, I will drink a Grog, which is hot or boiling water with brown sugar and a few shots of rum. I will usually have some lemon with it as well and then rest.
Love your tips Friederike! I am down for the count this week and will be going into the hospital for a few days. I have been dragging my feet about it but it is definitely time now. Don’t worry though, you gals will still see me since my laptop, iPad and cell are all going with me ROFL I can’t live without my techie tools and work doesn’t wait for me to return.
One big way that I keep the cold and flu away is that I wash my hands a lot and I take Kleenex with me whereever I go because it really works on keeping the cold and flu from spreading. They showed on TV that sneezing in Kleenex can keep the cold and flu from spreading. When I get sick, I stay in bed, and get plenty of rest and drink healthy drinks.
