How to Choose the Proper Brush for Your Hair Needs

How to Choose the Proper Brush for Your Hair Needs https://twoclassychics.com/2014/02/choose-proper-brush-hair-needs/I know how difficult it is to find just the right brush for your hair. I have been through stages when I think I used 3 different ones until I finally found the one that felt good on my hair and scalp. With all of the different styles of brushes out there, it helps to know what the brushes are used for so you can take into account your hair style, thickness of hair and how you want to use the brush.

Here are some tips for you to help choose the proper brush for your hair needs.

Let’s look at the types of brushes and how they work for hair.

Types of Brushes:

* Styling Brush – This is slightly curved with a nice cushion to protect your hair. It is made to help with volume and simple styling.

* Paddle Brush – This style of brush can be found in square or oval shapes and it has a flat bottom with cushion where the bristles are. It is perfect for smoothing and detangling hair. It works for all hair lengths and comes in many bristle choices.

* Vent Brush – These are usually rectangle in shape and come with vents through the bristle area to the backside. This is made to help style your hair while using a blowdryer. It allows the heat to reach through the brush to the hair easier.

* Round – Made for styling, the round brush has no cushion area and is made for curling hair under or over while drying. It adds volume and smoothness to your hair style. They come in a large range of sizes – the larger best for volume and the smaller ones for curling.

* Half-round – The Half Round brush is also made for styling and is very similar to the round brush in design. It is made for blow drying and styling shorter hair that you want to add some volume and design to

* Cushion – Similar to the paddle brush, this is usually oval in shape and it made for medium length hair. Sometimes these are found with little balls on the tips of the bristles to help smooth and detangle hair. It also helps to protect your scalp too.

Depending on how you want your brush to work for your hair, you can try one or more of these brushes. I use a oval cushion brush with boar bristles for my normal daily brush and a round and half round to add some volume as I need it here or there. This list should help you narrow it all down for you!

It’s very important that you keep your hairbrushes and combs in clean condition. You can check out our article on How to Properly Clean Your Hairbrushes and Combs right here on our blog. It’s a must-read!

I have no idea about all those types of brushes, I’d love to try a brush with boar bristles ( I hear it’s great for the hair)

I use a cushion brush and it was good to know that it is good for my hair. I have heard good things about boar bristles and want to try them. I blow dry but want a brush to smooth. I didn’t even realize there were so many kinds of brushes. Never heard of a half round but it sounds great for my daughter.

I use a paddle brush for my hair, I have natural wave and I like using it best with my hair type and texture

I use a paddle or cushion brush for my hair. It really helps when I have to brush out any tangles in my hair. I’ve used this type for many years and I’ll always remember my mother using “No More Tangles” spray when she had to comb my hair after a bath.

The Vent brush is the only brush I use because the teeth are spread apart and I have fine hair and it does not tear my hair like the other brushes do. I have found a great hair brush by Conair that really keeps my hair looking great.

Like Sarah L I didn’t realize there were so many choices: I usually just rush into the drug store and grab whatever looks good at a good price. Next time I’ll take more time to make sure I get the right brush!

I didn’t know there were so many kinds of brushes. I didn’t even know that mine had a name: Paddle Brush.
It’s just a regular sort of brush and works fine on my short hair.
