Winter Storm Hercules

January 3, 2014 by Shelly

pine cones and snowGood Morning Everyone! All I can say is this…TGIF! Wow, last night was a rough one here in Pennsylvania!

The winter storm Hercules arrived and he was fierce! We got about 6″ of snow, our high temps will be around 15 degrees today, wind chills make it feel like its ZERO out there. The wind started howling around midnight and its still howling out there now. The snow has stopped and the sun is shining with blue skies…but dang…its windy & cold out there baby!

We have been up since 4am here. We couldn’t sleep with the howling winds & tree branches & pine cones hitting our house. So, we bundled up and were outside trying to clear our driveway, sidewalks, patio, porch, etc. from the blowing snow. I am super sore this morning and very tired. A nap is in store for me today for sure!

Stay safe and take precautions if you go outside! Here in the MidWest we had the snow and its so cold we arent going to be getting more until it ‘warms up”. Sunday and Monday the actual temps are going to be hitting -20 when combined with the wind it will bring it down to perhaps -50 to -55.
Today I am preparing the outside animals …. as much as I can and we are holing up until it passes.

Wow and I thought the cold temps we got from it were bad! We just aren’t prepared for temps in the teens here in the foothills of NC! Scares me to think about what my power bill is going to be like. The heat pump has not stopped running at all even set at 66 degrees! Stay safe and try to keep warm and stay inside!

I see how cold it is where you live, and it is going to get colder. When it gets below freezing with all that blowing wind it makes it so dangerous to be outside! I hope you stay warm and safe!

    Congrats to the winners!
Here in Denver it was 62 degrees with sunshine. But don’t worry, we’re getting snow tonight and VERY cold temps. (but not as much snow or quite as cold as other places)

Here in Downeast Maine we seem to have escaped the worst of this storm. Earlier in the week they predicted a real Nor’easter, but all we got was another six or eight inches of snow. Of course, the temperatures are below zero with wind chills WAY below zero, And we’ve already had a couple of big snowstorms and an ice storm. This winter and I are not getting along!

      Oh Anne,

I never get along with winter! I got spoiled when I lived in Arizona for a few years and boy I really hate the east coast winters now! We avoid our summer home down at the Jersey Shore during the winter as the coastal winter winds are just too brutal for my liking. Stay warm!

We got the ice storm, and frigid temps, but I am still waiting for the snow! If it is going to be this cold we might as well have the snow beauty to go with it!

    Congratulations to the 2 winners
We got the same winter storm and about 10″ of snow, but at least the power is still on.
I have to go out now to do some more cleaning up and I am not looking forward to it, but I shall be very well bundled up against the wind and cold.

Yikes! NYC is a real mess! Our new mayor just got sworn in, and made a big whoop-de-whoop about how the plows would be out, salters and sanders…..but here in Queens all that’s been plowed are the major highways. The sidestreets, and even the service roads along the highways haven’t been touched. Out with the old, in the old, same old campaign promises!

Stay safe Sandy! The majority of politicians disgust me! They will say anything and do anything to get elected. Once in office, rarely do they do anything they said they would.
