Like most women, I really dislike having to clean my oven. In years past I used to spend a few hours every month cleaning it which always stunk up my house with toxic fumes from store bought cleaners.
Over the years I got a lot smarter about keeping my oven clean and cleaning it when I had to. I turned to more natural alternatives to get the job done.
Here are a few Natural Oven Cleaner Tips that you can try out in your own home.
* Don’t let your oven get overly dirty! Over time that baked on grease, food debris, etc. just gets thicker and becomes harder to clean. Make cleaning your oven a part of your overall regular deep kitchen cleaning and keep after it.
* If you have a large dishwasher place the oven racks into the dishwasher regularly and wash them through a normal cycle. If you don’t have a large enough dishwasher or if they are really dirty…fill up your kitchen sink with hot soapy water. Put the racks into the sink and let them soak for a few hours to loosen up the debris. Take an SOS Pad and scrub them down or use a sponge with baking soda to help loosen up the caked on mess. Once scrubbed, rinse them down with clean water and towel dry.
* If you don’t want to scrub down those racks inside…take them outside! Spray them down with a garden hose, spray on your natural cleaner, let them sit for several minutes and then hose them off with clean water.
* For a natural oven cleaner combine together a 1/4 cup of baking soda, 2 tablespoons of liquid dish soap, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and just enough water to make a paste. Use this paste with a clean sponge and scrub out the mess in your oven. Use clean water and another clean sponge to clean out the residue from the paste.
* You can find several companies out in the marketplace who sell natural oven cleaners and often times those cleaners are better than whipping up your own homemade cleaner. If you can’t find one locally, try shopping online for natural household cleaners.

One reason I don’t clean the oven as well as I should is that my husband always reacts to the fumes form the cleaners.. I shall try this natural remedy and see if he has less of a reaction. Thanks for all the tips.
Cleaning the oven is one of those tasks which I hate to do, but which has to be done. Thanks for ideas
I don’t remember the last time I cleaned the oven, and it really needs it. I have a steam cleaner that I’ve only used a couple of times, but it supposedly works on ovens, so I think I’ll give it a go. Thanks for the nudge.
I have been putting off cleaning my oven for way too long. I am going to try this.
Thanks for sharing the recipe for the natural cleaner.
I take the racks outside to clean because it is easier, and I am going to make the all natural cleaner to clean out my oven. I like that the all natural cleaner does not have terrible chemicals. Thanks for the tips.
I let my oven get way too nasty a while ago and spent hour with the stainless steel and soap getting it clean (and my back aching for several days). Now, I line my oven with aluminum foil and every couple of weeks I just change that and out and spot clean – much easier!
I am not sure if my oven racks will fit in my dishwasher, but I will be checking today. I hate trying to clean them! My oven is self cleaning which is great in the winter as it heats up the house, but not in the summer. It also has a steam clean option which I love!
I have a self cleaning oven that works quite well. I stopped using those toxic oven cleaners many years ago. I also line the bottom of the oven with aluminum foil. (as well as the burners on top of the stove)
Thank you. I am actually planning to clean my oven tomorrow. Perfect timing for this post!
Thank you so much for this post it could have not came at a better time . Thank you
I never ever thought about putting the oven racks in the dishwasher that is a great idea. I hate cleaning the oven but I try to keep up on it. I will have to try your natural cleaning directions thanks for sharing.
