Easy Old Fashioned Meatloaf Recipe

January 2, 2014 by Classystaff

There is some thing about good old comfort food, just like mom used to make. Back when dinner was at 6 and you better not be late. The kitchen had those amazing smells that you never forgot. Meatloaf is one of those comfort foods that we try and capture the essence of mom’s cooking. I have been playing around with a recipe for old fashioned meatloaf for a few months now and I think this one has a great balance of ingredients that gives a nice balance of flavors. I do not like my meatloaf with a hundred different ingredients and definitely no peppers. This mixture came out moist and with good flavor. I really enjoyed it, my hubby said it was just Okay. You be the judge.

I love meatloaf. I made some with a whiskey glaze a couple of days ago 🙂

I like the idea of using oats instead of bread crumbs; I imagine they add a nice texture. I’ll try them in my next meatloaf.

My “recipe” usually includes some Worcestershire sauce for flavor. I often add some finely grated carrot, too. Meatloaf is a favorite of mine. Thanks for posting yours!

My husband doesn’t really like meatloaf but I do enjoy it ! 🙂 I haven’t made it myself but I might just try it for myself for when he is away at work. Does it freeze well ?

This sounds like a good meatloaf recipe You could add more ketchup on top at the end of the baking for a glaze. Did your husband say why it was only okay? You could also fry and brown the onions first to get more flavor or add a little garlic powder.

Meatloaf is a great warming, comfort food. I like your use of both ground beef and ground turkey. We like to do that, too. I know of people that use tomato sauce in theirs, but ketchup is a must at our house. We don’t mix it in but cook it on top. My daughter likes to add more after saying she likes the baked in ketchup mixed with the cool one.

I can’t wait to try your recipe! I love meatloaf, and try to make it from time to time for my family, but can never quite get mine to the right consistency. My mom and my grandmother-in-law make the best meatloaf ever, and I can’t wait to taste this recipe to see how it measures up!

I love using different ground meats in my meatloaf. I usually use beef, chicken and sausage. But I love this with turkey. Looks yummy for sure!

Dinner was ALWAYS at 6pm at our house growing up. I tried a hundred different ways of making meatloaf when it was my turn to cook. I never got one that I liked and haven’t even tried meatloaf in 30 years.

sounds so much like mine but I use sausage instead of turkey which would be healthier for us. I think maybe just for trying I will trade in the sausage and see what the fam thinks.
