When it comes to cakes, I rarely purchase a boxed cake mix. I am the type of gal who prefers to bake my cakes and cupcakes completely from scratch. This cake recipe is courtesy of my 89 year old great auntie who I often talk about here on our blog. When she was able to cook & bake…she was a great baker more than a great cook.
Here is my great aunt’s recipe for a deliciously moist homemade Chocolate Devils Food Cake and we always loved it frosted with chocolate frosting.

That looks delicious! I am craving chocolate cake.
Wow this looks delicious! I love devils food cake!
This sounds like a very good devil’s food cake recipe. I shall have to try it soon. I guess that the cake pans would probably be the 9″ size.
My go-to chocolate cake is a “wacky cake,” which is fine for a quick family dessert, but I’ve been looking for a good, reliable chocolate cake recipe. This might just end my search. Thank you for posting it. And I love that it’s from your Auntie; I think of my own mother (who was the “Auntie” in my extended family) every time you mention her.
Yummy, this sounds good. I
Sounds wonderful. Wish I had a piece right now. 🙂 I love recipes that are passed down and come from family. Most of the time your favorite foods are family recipes or simply the way a family member makes something.
Another yummy one from the Classy Chics! And I love that it is from our Great Auntie. I love making dishes from the recipes my grandmother gave me – in her writing on 3×5 cards. They always taste better than any other version.
love to try this cake it sounds good
I just got a KitchenAid Mixer. I have been searching for great recipes to make. I am going to try this one. I know everyone will be happy to enjoy this sweet treat on a cold Winter’s day. Thank you for sharing.
Love using baking cocoa instead of processed chocolate. My grandma was a school cook and always made the best food and baked goods. She made professional cakes too, with elaborate sugar molds. Thanks for sharing a family recipe.
Thanks for the recipe sounds delicious.
My sister would love this if I made it for her birthday. She loves chocolate.
Chocolate Devils food cake is one of my very favorites but I have never been brave enough to make it myself. I know it would be way better than store bought hands down. This recipe looks like something I can handle I think I will give it a try. That is so neat that your aunt is 89 years old please thank her for the wonderful recipe.
Thanks for the easy recipe for a cake. I’ll have to try it.
