San Francisco is a very old town as you already know. Well, somewhat old for the US anyway. There are many famous landmarks in the city that you have probably seen. I love visiting the city and spending time learning about all of the old building and such. In the mid to late 1800’s Victorian style homes were all the rage and almost 50,000 were built in San Francisco. Then came the big 1906 earthquake and many of them were destroyed. There are still thousands that were in the lower districts that survived. Steiner Street had been known for its beautiful homes and specifically the 7 Sisters, a row of 7 combined homes that are also known as Painted Ladies. the Painted Ladies is also a term that has been applied to the Victorian and Edwardian style homes throughout the US.
These 7 sisters shown here are relatively famous. I am sure you recognize them from many TV shows – like Full House and The Streets of San Francisco as well as many movies too. Just last week, the City has blocked tour buses from visiting these historic homes. I am glad I got my visit in! Enjoy.

I enjoyed the photo and the contrast between the Painted Ladies and the modern San Francisco buildings behind them. I remeber seeing the 7 Sisters houses years ago and they look just about the same.
I love the contrast between the Painted Ladies and the city scape behind them. Nice that there’s a park across the street from them so you can actually see all of them at once. Thanks for sharing.
Recognized it immediately. We watched Full House all the time. It was a big hit with my daughter (her name is Stephanie…which made it really fun). When I friend of mine visited San Francisco, she took photos of the street and the houses for my daughter to see. It’s amazing how even that photo brings back some good memories. It was a very family friendly, fun show and gave us some good family time. Thanks for the smile.
I recognized the picture immediately. Altho when I was there, downtown looked a bit differen (40 years ago)
Great picture it’s been years since I was in this very same spot. San Francisco has so much to see and do. Mery Christmas and have a very Happy New Year.
