Slow Cooker Barbecue Pulled Pork Recipe

December 25, 2013 by Shelly

slow cooked pulled pork

One of my family’s favorite slow cooked meals happens to be barbecue pulled pork sandwiches and if you have never made them, they are super easy to make. When I make them in my slow cooker, I purchase a very large pork roast and cook it up. I then freeze some of the fully cooked pulled pork into 2 cup freezer containers for future meals which feeds 2-3 people. If you have a larger sized family, freeze it in 4 or 5 cup capacity freezer containers. Thaw container in refrigerator overnight for use the next day.

Slow Cooker Barbecue Pulled Pork Recipe
Recipe Type: main dish
Author: Two Classy Chics
Prep time: 5 mins
Cook time: 6 hours
Total time: 6 hours 5 mins
Serves: 6-8
This recipe only takes a few minutes to prepare and then slow cook it all day long in your slow cooker (crock pot) until done. Refrigerate or freeze leftovers.
Ingredients
  • 2 to 3 lb. pork roast
  • 1 bottle of sweet barbecue sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • water
Instructions
  1. Mix together the salt and ground black pepper. Use this as a rub and rub into onto all sides of the pork roast. Place roast into the slow cooker and cover it with water. Turn the temperature on high, cover and cook on high for one hour. Reduce heat to low and slow cook it for 4 to 5 hours on the low setting.
  2. Use a ladle and spoon out most of the water that remains. Use a fork and knife to break up the cooked pork into smaller pieces, this should be easy to do now that it’s almost fully cooked. Pour in 1/2 to one full bottle of your favorite barbecue sauce. Cover and slow cook on the low setting for an additional 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until done.
  3. Serve the pulled barbecue pork on your favorite buns or rolls.

Looking for a new slow cooker? I have three of them and use them all of the time. The last two that I got…I purchased from Amazon and love them!

This is a great recipe because it is so simple to prepare yet would taste so good. It is a time saver as well as a money saver since I could buy a more economical g=larger pork roast , prepare it and freeze the rest for future use.

I am now hungry again. I just ate leftover turkey & gravy & dressing. That can be sort of bland. I need something a bit more spicy like this. Amazing how easy it is.

I will definately have to try this recipe. My boyfriend loves pulled pork sandwiches and I love preparing slow cooker recipes since they are such little work and make the house smell so good. Thank you so much for sharing this.

I usually buy the smaller pork roasts which are more expensive. I never thought about freezing the leftovers. Thanks for the ideas. we love bbq.

Living here in the south, pulled pork is one of those things that I was raised eating. I just love it, but have never tried to make it. Thought it surely had to be harder than this! Awesome and easy recipe. thank you so much!

I have never made this in the slow cooker. I am still a slow cooker beginner though. I do love a pulled pork sandwich though and this recipe looks like something I con handle thanks so much for sharing and Merry Christmas.
