Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

December 4, 2013 by Shelly

oatmealchoc

The holiday season is finally upon us and I have been in full cookie baking mode for the past few days. Every year I bake Christmas cookies for our entire family, friends and neighbors…so I start early!

When I make oatmeal cookies I will do half of them with raisins and half of them with chocolate chips. With this recipe you can swap out the chocolate chips with raisins and vice versa. Whatever you prefer. These are chewy and not brick hard like some other oatmeal cookies I have tried in the past. Here is the recipe!

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe
Recipe Type: Cookies
Author: Two Classy Chics
Prep time: 12 mins
Cook time: 12 mins
Total time: 24 mins
Serves: 3 1/2 dozen
These are drop-style cookies that are easily prepared. You can double up the batch ingredients and making double batches of cookies. They freeze will once baked and will keep up to 3 months frozen.
Ingredients
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup milk, divided
  • 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder and salt until combined. Use a pastry blender and cut-in the vegetable shortening into the flour mixture until blended and crumbly. Stir in the brown sugar, eggs, vanilla and half of the milk until well combined.
  2. Pour rolled oats into a large bowl. Pour the other half of milk into the bowl and stir. Let sit for 1 full minute. Stir this mixture into the first bowl until well combined. Pour in the semi-sweet chocolate chips, stirring by hand until all ingredients are well combined together.
  3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray. Drop cookies onto baking sheet, spacing them 2 1/2″ apart. Place sheet into the oven and bake at 350 degrees for approximately 10 to 12 minutes or until done. Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack. Store cookies in an airtight container.

My son loves this time of year because he knows I’ll be baking cookies. I usually do oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip cookies. Maybe I’ll have to try these for him.

Nice recipe – very classic and I love that you used real oats – not the quick kind. Oh, and you don’t have to choose raisins or chips – I Iike to put both, along with walnuts!

This is a great recipe for Oatmeal cookies. I’d make them both ways , but I might use half butter which would make them less chewy.

Oatmeal cookies are my spouse’s favorites. He’s away right now, but I have everything I need to make these cookies, so I’m thinking they’d be a nice surprise for him when he gets home. Thanks for the idea and the recipe.

Great post and perfect timing….it’s National Cookie Day!
I love oatmeal chocolate chip and my husband likes oatmeal raisin. This recipe works for us both. I love that you can easily interchange the two and make a batch featuring both easily. Thanks.
