Movie Review: Home Alone – The Holiday Heist

Home Alone - The Holiday HeistHome Alone – The Holiday Heist was just released on DVD on October 29th, 2013 and I finally had time to sit down with the family to watch it. Before I get started with the review, here is some additional information.

Home Alone: The Holiday Heist– In this hilarious holiday tales for all ages, 10 year old Finn Baxter (Christian Martyn) thinks his family’s new house in Maine is haunted, but the truth might be even scarier! A trio of thieves (led by Malcolm McDowell) is after a priceless painting hidden in a secret room by the previous owner. So when Finn and his sister (Jodelle Ferland) find themselves home alone, Finn rigs up an elaborate array of techno-gadgets and booby traps to protect his pad from the bumbling criminals trying to break in. It’s a delightful comedy caper that will steal your heart again and again.

My Thoughts: Okay…I remember the original Home Alone movies and even though I am not into comedy flicks, I did find certain parts of the original movies to be hilarious. Last weekend I invited the kids over for a movie party and we sat down to watch this movie with them. The 4 1/2 year old Princess was not amused and got bored with the movie after 30 minutes. However, my 12 year old and 15 year old nephews loved it. They watched the entire movie and were laughing quite frequently throughout it. For preschoolers like the princess, I would say this movie is above their age level. For the older kids…a great movie to entertain them. Some of the techno-gadgets and booby traps that Finn set up were just plain stupid (IMHO) and others were quite ingenious.

Overall….I would give this movie a 6 out of 10 on my entertainment value scale. I think adults would be bored with it in a hurry and younger preschoolers wouldn’t be interested. However, kids from ages 8 and up would probably like it like my nephews did.

Home Alone ~ The Holiday Heist is available right now for purchase and you can find it at various retailers across the nation.
