Kid’s Craft Project – Felt Ice Skates Holiday Ornaments

November 29, 2013 by Shelly

Felt Ice Skate Ornament
Felt Ice Skate Ornament

Last weekend we started our annual holiday ornament making and this particular craft project is one that we did with all of the younger children in the family. In less than one hour, each child can whip up several of these ice skate ornaments that are made out of crafting felt and a few other supplies. Here is how we made them.

Felt Ice Skates Holiday Ornaments

Sheets of Craft Felt (we used Red and White)
Scissors
Hole Punch
Liquid Glue or Elmer’s Glue
Larger Silver Paper Clips
Yarn (any color)
Paper Pattern
Pencil for Tracing

Directions: We had the kids draw out an ice skate shape onto plain paper and cut it out with scissors. Fold a sheet of craft felt in half and place the paper pattern onto the fold with the bottom of the skate right on the fold line. Have kids cut out the shape from the craft felt.

Unfold the ice skate and place the large silver paper clip through the fold so that it forms the ice skate blade (see photo). Have the kids use liquid glue or Elmer’s glue to glue the left side, right side and the top of the ice skate together to seal all edges. Just a thin line of glue or a few drops will do, it doesn’t take much!

Punch a hole into the ice skate using a hole puncher so that the kids can thread through some yarn to form the ice skate laces and tie the yarn into a bow.

These little felt ice skates can be hung onto a Christmas tree, off of a wreath or let the kids use them as package toppers.

Quick, Easy and Inexpensive craft project that helps the kids get excited for the upcoming holidays!

Wow – these are really cute! And just what we are always looking for:
Fast, easy, inexpensive, miniimal set up and clean up time – FUN, seasonal, easy to display (or even some nice handmade gifts and just right for creative touches and variations!

What more could one ask from a crafty, indoor activity?

Very cute and a great project for kids. I love the use of a paper clip for the skate. My grandkids live in Florida, and I know they will get a kick out of making this. They enjoy it when I send colored leaves in autumn and fake snowballs in winter.

I think this would be a lot of fun for my little niece to make and decorate her room with! She loves to skate and she could do this with minimal supervision.
