Hongar Farms Benissimo Flavored Oils

November 7, 2013 by Classystaff

My family is a huge fan of garlic. We use it in as many dishes as we can because it brings a robust addition to the final product. Plus it adds just a bit of “what is that flavor” when added to unexpected dishes. I was excited to be able to try a flavored oil and I was especially happy to get one of their garlic based oils to try out and share with you. Just in time for Holiday meal planning!

The roots of Hongar Farms date back 450 years ago to a farm nestled in the Austrian Alps, just east of Salzburg. Only the highest quality herbs, spices, oils, vinegars, produce and meats were used in the kitchens of Hongar Farms, and they were carefully sourced to please regional royalty, wealthy traders, and landowners. While their roots date back many centuries, their current flavor-infused oils developed into today’s flavors between the 19th and 20th centuries. These beloved, time-tested recipes are available in the Benissimo product line of flavored oils and vinegars.

I was sent a bottle of their Mediterranean Garlic oil to try out. The oil comes in a 8 oz bottle that is loaded with beautiful herbs and garlic just soaking in that lovely oil. From the first opening of the cap, I knew that this would be a winner. It has Canola/Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Thyme, Minced Garlic, Basil, Oregano, Pure Garlic Oil which is all of the classic flavors I use when cooking Italian foods. So I planned a meal with cheesed stuffed shells, garlic infused french bread and salad.

I added the oil several places as I was preparing my meal. For one, into the pasta water for just a bit of enhanced flavor. I also added just a splash of oil to the cheese mixture, then I drizzled a bit on top after baking. Of course, the star of the show was the garlic infused french bread. It was so good! This would also be perfect to use in a salad dressing or in a marinade too!
