Good morning everyone! Well, it was a rough night last night here in the Hill household. Hubby has been sick for over a week and yesterday he got worse in a hurry! He is home again today with me so I can play nurse. His doctor changed all of his antibiotics and sentenced him to bed rest for a few days. That means…honey, get me this or that will be going on for the rest of the week. Sigh.
Today’s Topic: Thanksgiving is next week! Yay! For over 25 years I have always cooked Thanksgiving dinner for the family…it was a tradition until last year. When auntie went into assisted living, we decided to go in to have dinner with her & her old lady friends in the home. We did it last year and auntie loved it. Not only that, her old lady friends who live there too loved having us since many of them don’t even get visitors during the holidays. This year…we are doing it all over again, so we will be in there having dinner with them come turkey day. On Thanksgiving we always give our daughter and our grand daughter a gift. We started that tradition with DD was a little girl and every Thanksgiving we give each of them a new ornament for their Christmas tree. This year DD is getting an “Engaged Couple” ornament and grand daughter is getting a “My Little Pony” ornament.
So, what kind of family traditions do all of you have for Thanksgiving? We would love to hear about them!

I am sorry your husband got worse and I hope he improves quickly for both his and your sakes.
I love your tradition of giving a Christmas ornament on Thanksgiving. I usually prepare Thanksgiving dinner and my family will bring some dishes. This year we can’t be all together, but we be for Christmas, yet I am still preparing the traditional meal for those of us who are here.
We do the traditional turkey dinner for Thanksgiving and we clean up the wishbone, dry it out and save it for New Year’s Eve. We then pick two family members and they do the wishbone wrestling match (break the wishbone) and whoever has the bigger half wins. They get rewarded with $10.00 cash. We have done that for years now and the older kids and young adults look forward to our family’s Wishbone Wars.
Thanksgiving is such a heartwarming time. I love getting together with family. Sometimes we go down to see my mom and most of my husband’s and my family, and sometimes we stay home for a small Thanksgiving. This year it is going to be just my husband, daughter, and I. We are looking forward to a nice day of family time with lots of eating, watching football, and Christmas movies. Thanksgiving night the Kansas City Plaza lights up all their Christmas lights, and we watch it on TV. It is kindof our ball drop. Haha!
I started the ornament tradition with my grandkids. I get them a new one each year, but I hadn’t thought about giving it to them on Thanksgiving. That adds a nice element. Thanks. I hope your husband gets well soon. Make sure you don’t work too hard and take care of yourself too. We want everyone healthy to enjoy their Thanksgiving.
We always have dinner at home with some family members, but the big thing is that we all make our favorite dessert, and all go over to my sister’s house to share. We end up have the whole family show up, and neighbors come over and join in eating all of the Desserts on Thanksgiving. We have been doing this for years.
Thanksgiving this year is really special for me. We get to start all new traditions as my boyfriend and I are hosting for the first time ever. I am slightly terrified since it will add up to a dinner for 20+ people, my parents will meet his parents for the first time, we will have 9+ people staying over night for several nights in our 3 bedroom house…
I think it will be great. I love thanksgiving and cannot wait to have everyone together.
I think that it is wonderful that you have given up a 25 year old tradition for another one that makes so many ppl happy! I also like the idea of giving ornaments on Thanksgiving Day rather than in everyone’s stocking as we do now. I may have to “borrow” that as our new tradition. We will be having dinner with my dad.
