Accused: A Rosato & Associates Audio Book by Lisa Scottoline

I enjoy a good suspense thriller now and then so when I was sent the newest novel from Lisa Scottoline called Accused, I was excited to check it out. This book is from her line of legal thriller novels – Rosato & Associates of which this is book #12! I never realized she had wrote so many! I am behind the times!

Synopsis:
Bennie Rosato, Mary DiNunzio, Judy Carrier, and Anne Murphy are back with all cylinders firing in Accused.

Mary Dinuzio has just been promoted to partner and is about to take on her most unusual case yet, brought to the firm by a thirteen-year-old genius with a penchant for beekeeping. Allegra Gardner’s sister Fiona was murdered six years ago, and it seemed like an open-and-shut case: the accused, Lonnie Stall, was seen fleeing the scene; his blood was on Fiona and her blood was on him; most damningly, Lonnie Stall pleaded guilty. But Allegra believes Lonnie is innocent and has been wrongly imprisoned. The Gardner family is one of the most powerful in the country and Allegra’s parents don’t believe in reopening the case, so taking it on is risky. But the Rosato & Associates firm can never resist an underdog. Was justice really served all those years ago? It will take a team of unstoppable female lawyers, plus one thirteen-year-old genius, to find out.

My Thoughts:
This book is not like any that I have listened to in a while. A legal thriller is not usually on my reading list, but with an all female legal team on board, who can refuse!

This is a story of unusual circumstance and Mary Dinunzio is very fond of her client. In fact, so much so, Mary’s best friend and associate calls her out for being involved personally with the case. The main character is written as a strong woman that usually knows her strength, until you get her around her fiance or her loud, and outspoken Italian family plus the family friends from down the block. Her family is brought into many areas of this story, making it more of a fiction novel.

This story is full of twists and turns in the case about the murder of the clients sister as Mary seeks to find the truth. She is blocked by those that don’t want to to find the truth, finds her client thrown in a psychiatric treatment facility, and find herself in danger too. The book is a tad suspenseful in many areas, but for the most part, legal thriller is the perfect term.

The story is very enjoyable to listen to, or read, depending on your copy and January LaVoy, who does the reading, it talented in voices and bringing the characters to a life of their own. I found myself involved with the story from the beginning all the way through. The surprise ending and the “who done it” was nice. I was glad I did not guess it!

From a female point of view, I enjoyed the additional look into Mary’s personal life and the humor that the author evoked into the story. Mary has crazy parents and soon to be in-laws and you get an in depth look at that. For some, that could be a disturbance to the story line, but I liked getting to know the main character all around and I think it added more to the story.

I liked listening to this book. I think the author did a great job crafting the story and each person in it. It is a fun, light-hearted read with some mystery and thrills for you. A fully rounded story that taps into every genre and keeps those pages, and CD’s turning fast!
