Your Favorite Holiday Desserts

Good morning everyone! Happy Hump Day Wednesday!!! I am looking forward to the weekend getting here as I want some peace & quiet. I am going to take off work on Saturday and just laze around the house, maybe even do some scrapbooking if I feel up to it. Lately I have been pushing myself 7 days a week to work…so this weekend, I plan on laying low and hopefully can kick this flu to the curb.

Today’s Topic: We are getting closer to the Thanksgiving holiday and I have been working on our dinner menu. This year we will be going into the nursing home early in the day (around lunch time) and having holiday dinner in there with my auntie & her friends. Later in the day around 6pm I will be cooking dinner for 7 adult guests and 3 children. Usually I make the traditional type of desserts (sweet potato pie, pumpkin pie, a pumpkin roll, etc.) This year I am trying to think of something new to make for our holiday dessert. What kind of desserts do you enjoy with your Thanksgiving meal?

We had a few giveaways close late last night so we do have winners to announce this morning. As always, we spend time every morning validating entries, trashing out the cheater entries and then randomly select a winner using random.org. We then double check that persons entry to make sure it’s legit and then finalize it.

Winner for the FOTOstrap is… deanna
Winner for the Funny Face Cranberries Snacks is… friederike graedener

Congratulations to both winners! Have a great Wednesday everyone & don’t forget to take a peek at our holiday gift guide which is in our top tool bar here on the home page of our blog. Great gift ideas!

I sincerely hope you will be able to rest this weekend and get over the flu.
We make apple pie for Thanksgiving and something with chocolate, We are all chocoholics. If you are not sure you can make several smaller recipes in bar form to give them a try.

You should take the weekend off. Unplug the phone if you want. Stay in pj’s and lounge on the couch all day. Go through your scrapbooks…Whatever you want. Everyone needs a break at times.

For Thanksgiving dessert, we do the traditional pumpkin pie. The holidays are the only time we make it, and my daughter and I both love it. Other delicious goodies are fudge and Hello Dollies. They just seem more decadent and festive. My daughter used to make a lot of candy – turtles, divinity…but we don’t do as much since it is just her, my husband, and I for Thanksgiving. If you want to stick with pumpkin, you could always do a pumpkin cheesecake or pumpkin cinnamon rolls.

    • Thanks Sherry! I plan on it. Last weekend I had to work plus I had some unannounced out of town guests drop in. I hate that! On top of that I have been sick and getting sicker. This weekend I am taking off Saturday and maybe Sunday if I can get DD to go into work for me.

  3. A couple of years ago I was looking for something unusual but seasonal and found a recipe for Cranberry Nut Pie. It’s not too sweet and was a big hit. It’s a one-crust pie and is a cinch to make. When I make it, I use more than the 1/4 cup of nuts listed.

We make our favorite Snickers Apple Salad for Thanksgiving: chop up some apples (we like Granny Smith), chop up a couple Snickers Bars, mix up some cream cheese, whip cream, a little brown sugar and mix it all together. It tastes like a caramel apple, just better!!

  5. eww I do not like sweet potato pie but I adore pumpkin pie. It is my all time favorite. I usually make one of those and either an apple pie or a mincemeat… only because hubbly loves that and it is very hard to find. If it is not made for Thanksgiving, then definitely for Christmas. I am not sure what we are doing yet for the holiday. Hopefully my BFF will be able to get together or maybe we will take a trip and visit somewhere. I hate not having family around during the holidays so I need to be amused somehow
