Hiking is a physical activity which is enjoyed by many people around the world. However, if you plan to take a serious hike, you need to be ready to work up a sweat. In order to avoid feeling uncomfortable while you are on the hike, you should look to prepare yourself as best as possible before you leave home. This means that you need the right gear and outfit. Part of that outfit will be a proper pair of underwear. The boxer brief is the best choice in this situation because it stays fit around your waist and offers plenty of support which is what you need while hiking. However, the material is extremely important. Cotton underwear is the most common, but it is also the worst choice possible in this scenario since it will soak up the sweat like crazy. Here are a few better choices.
Below the Belt briefs from ExOfficio
For hiking and other physical activities, you really need underwear made from synthetic fibers since these are the ones that can keep you cool and dry the best. There are plenty of fibers that work well in this regard such as spandex and polypropylene. However, they are often used in various combinations in order to achieve the best result. These briefs from ExOfficio use a combination of nylon and spandex. They dry very fast and they are also treated with an antimicrobial so you don’t get any rashes while hiking.
Also made with a synthetic fiber, this underwear is made using polyester. Chafing is a big problem for hikers, but this underwear wicks very well so it prevents you from encountering this issue.
Whenever you are looking for new underwear, whether it is for hiking or for any other situation.

Hmmm this post made me think that a good holiday gift would be underwear for outdoor sports! this is good info, because I would have assumed regular ol’ cotton is best!
I had not thought of this, but I’m glad you bring it up. I just think cotton is the way to go, but this makes you wonder about every other activities and choosing another option. I sweat and will have to try something else to see if it helps wick away moisture.
Good to know! My husband and I do a lot of hiking and I never thought about what kind of underwear that we wear! This would be great to get for my husband.
These are really nice underwear. Below the belt briefs are great to have for hiking. I would think that underwear are very important and they need to be comfortable! I will have to look into these!
I didn’t realize that cotton was such a bad choice. I guess these other briefs are also good for sports and I am glad that they have an anitmicrobial treatment
