This PR Pitch Takes the Cake!!!

PR Pitches - Failure or Success

I know that a lot of us review bloggers get a lot of ridiculous PR pitches and today I wanted to share with all of you one that we got in our inbox yesterday. After doing this blogging job for well over 4 years now…this one really takes the cake!!!

I will not mention who the company was or what type of products they were pitching for the sake of privacy.

Dear Blogger,

Our company sells XYZ products and our web site is located at………. We wanted to let you know that we don’t compensate bloggers for reviews but would like to offer you to “buy” a product from us, write a review about the product, publish the review on your blog and advertise that review via your social media channels.

(then a few more sentences which I will leave out for privacy reasons).

Signed,

Jane Doe at XYZ company

Well, I am the one that happened to open that email, read it and about pissed my big girl panties when I read it!!! Wow…Wow…Wow!!!

So, I guess what XYZ company is telling bloggers is this…Buy our products, Review our products and advertise & market them for us. You the blogger get nothing for your time, talent, efforts or social media pull. Hmmmm….That sounds like a very attractive offer, doesn’t it? Hell No!

I did respond to their email and I must admit…I was snitty with my reply, but yet professional. Frankly, I don’t know of any bloggers that would take them up on their offer and I feel it is just bad-business to even suggest that to a professional blogger!!!

Just like everyone else in the world…we have bills to pay, business expenses and a family to feed. Why in the world would we buy your product and then advertise it & market it for you…and get nothing in return? Who are you kidding??? I mean really!

All I can say is this… Thank God there are some reputable companies and PR firms out there who recognize the value that a mom blogger & review blogger can give to them, the company and that company’s products.

Wow…that was one great big #FAIL of a pitch! ugh!
