Cookies are an easy treat to make for kids, grandkids and even husbands. I don’t think I have ever thrown out cookies in my house, but I have tossed cake or pie that was too big to finish. Sad, I know. Cookies just make you smile for some reason. They are not heavy or too sweet and you can choose to eat one or several to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Now I know in my house there are those that love soft cookies and those that love crispy cookies and some that don’t care. Here is a lovely recipe for a chewy chocolate chip cookie that I think everyone will agree on!

Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe
1 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups brown sugar or light brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
2 1/2 cups cups milk chocolate chips
In a large mixing bowl mix together all of the above ingredients in the order they are given in the recipe. You will want to use an electric mixer and beat after each ingredient addition. Hand stir in the milk chocolate chips last until they are well blended into the dough mixture. Using a tablespoon, drop cookie dough onto an un-greased cookie sheet. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 10-12 minutes or until done. Recipe makes 2 dozen cookies.

Everyone I know adores the chewy cookies – thank you for the recipe!!! I want to make it for the next get together!
the buttermilk intrigues me as well. I will have to try this one and see what the new ingredient adds to the mix.
My daughter and I are like you. Cookies are favorites. We even choose chocolate cip cookies for our birthdays instead of cake. We love soft and chewy chocolate chip, and my daughter will even warm them in the microwave for a “just from the oven” gooeyness. Like the use of buttermilk. I will have to try that.
I want to add just a bit of fresh grated ginger to these. Bet it would taste very good.
This is different enough from my chocolate chip recipe (which does not have buttermilk and uses dark chocolate and walnuts). I shall have to try it to compare them
