Southwest Veggie Soup and Salba Chia Salsa
Summer is finally here! And of course this means barbecues, pool parties and get-togethers with friends and family are in full swing. I may have the perfect products for summertime that is a tasty snack to take with you to any outing. I was sent the Organic Tortilla Chips and Organic Salsa made by Salba Smart Chia. What a great way to get your fix of Salba Chia and keep it healthy for everyone too! These are packed with Omega-3s so you and those enjoying it will be getting vitamins and enjoying a healthy snack all at the same time.
My son and I love Mexican food and chips and salsa are a staple item when you go out to eat it, depending on how they are prepared. We also love to munch on them on the weekend sometimes too or on Taco Night. But those days are getting fewer and fewer as we are working to overhaul our meals. One easy thing to do is get rid of the artificial ingredients and the Organic products from Salba Make that a bit easier.
Salba Smart Chia has been working on adding delicious snack items to their line up and one of those is the organic tortilla chips and organic salsa. These products come in 3 different selections, in both salsa and the chips. PLUS their Organic Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips were just named SELF Magazine’s 2013 Healthy Snack winner! You can find them in the June Issue! One more reason to pack these for your picnics!
My family and I were excited to try out these products. I love a bit of spice but I don’t care for it to burn at all. The salsa we were sent was the medium heat one. It was slightly warm but not too spicy and had a nice tomato flavor. The added chia was not noticeable but knowing it is in there to add a bit of healthy goodness is great.
I love corn chips and we received a bag of the Yellow con tortilla chips and the White corn tortilla chips. The chips are hearty and can handle a heavier dip easily. Both of these have great flavor and I think it is really hard to have a preference as to which one I like better… I really cannot decide. The kids loved them both and did a great job devouring them LOL They did not even notice of care that they were organic or had chia in them. They said they tasted great! I love that!
Salsa is also a great ingredient in other foods. Here is a recipe that you will want to try –
Southwest Veggie Soup, featuring Salba Chia Salsa
This recipe is wonderful on a cold day, or it can also be enjoyed chilled for those living in warmer climates. It is very nourishing and super simple to prepare.
Ingredients
1 lb ground turkey
1 tablespoon Ghee or olive oil
2 teaspoons cumin
1 cup diced yellow onion
4 cups Water
4 cups chicken broth
1 cup diced carrots
1 cup sliced celery
1/2 each medium green cabbage-cubed
1 jar Salba Smart Salsa – hot or medium
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
2 teaspoons sea salt or to taste
1/8 teaspoon pepper
Shredded Monterey Jack cheese
Instructions
Brown the ground turkey until just cooked through. Melt ghee in skillet over medium heat. Add cumin and stir into oil for one minute to unseal flavor. Add onion to skillet and cook until soft. Put onion mixture and remaining ingredients into a large pot. Bring to a boil and then simmer for 30-45 minutes until veggies are tender. Be careful not to overcook to retain nutrients of veggies and to keep the turkey from tasting dry. Pour into large bowls and sprinkle with shredded cheese. Serve with warm Salba Smart Tortillas.
