The Last Ride – A Story of Hank Williams (Music’s original bad boy) was just released on DVD and Blu-ray. This movie stars Henry Thomas, Jesse James, Fred Dalton Thompson and Kaley Cuoco. It is rated PG13 and there is some offensive language in it, so you can decide if you want your children around when you watch it. (although didn’t find the small amounts of bad language too bad at all).
Synopsis: Based on the controversial life story of singer-songwriter Hank Williams, The Last Ride tells the powerful tale of country music’s original bad boy. The man, the myth and the music come together when Williams travels from Alabama to a series of New Year’s shows in West Virginia and Ohio.
This remarkable journey leads straight into the heart and soul of the legendary performer as he takes one last shot at redemption. Featuring all new versions of Hank Williams’ greatest songs, this emotional tale of hope and truth is one you’ll never forget.
Our Thoughts: I am not a country music fan and never will be. Sorry, it’s just not my type of music. With that said, my 67 year old mother is a huge fan of country music so I invited her over to my home to watch this DVD with me so that I could get an honest opinion from someone who is a fan.
From what mom said, the movie pretty much depicts Hank Williams life accurately and yes…she is a Hank Williams fan. She likes how they showed some of his softer side and of course…his bad boy side (although they focused a lot on his bad boy image).
The acting was pretty good and she really enjoyed seeing Henry Thomas and Fred Dalton Thompson in this movie as she has always enjoyed their acting. She also stated that she really liked that they wove in several different characters (people) from Hank’s life which added a lot more depth to the story.
She really enjoyed hearing all of the Hank Williams classics throughout the DVD and several times I caught her singing along to them (wasn’t pretty since mom can’t sing!). Overall, she really enjoyed watching it, so I gave the DVD to her for her video collection.
If you are a country music or Hank Williams fan, this DVD is available for purchase right now! Head on out and pick it up today.
